Hi All, Just got back from Austin and the annual conference of Texas State Genealogical Society. One of the highlights of the conference is always the awards ceremony. East Texas Genealogical Society won the following: for our quarterly "East Texas Family Records" - an award of Excellence (1st); for our book "Burks Walker Tippitt Funeral Home Records 1936-1950" an award of Outstanding (I believe this is incorrect and it should be Distinguished which is a 2nd); and for our newsletter "The Bulletin" an award of Outstanding (3rd). Van Zandt County Genealogical Society also did well at the conference. Their book "Van Zandt County Divorce Records" won an award of Excellence (1st). Also one of the society's hardest workers and supporters Ruth Abbot won TSGS' Volunteer of the Year Award. Elaine Nall Baye from the Rains County Genealogical Society won the Award of Excellence (1st) for her columns "Old News" that is published in the Rains County Leader.
