Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, April 10, 2004 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Barbara Brixey Wiley Program: "Researching Methodist Records: We're Not Called METHODist for Nothing!" If one or more of your ancestors was associated with the Methodist Church you'll want to hear what Barbara has to say about locating church records and learning how to access them. According to Barbara, Methodist records are often better than those of many other mainstream Protestant denominations. In addition to telling us what records are kept, she will help us learn how to decipher the unique terminology used in the records. Barbara is a professional genealogist who assists clients with research, manuscript preparation, indexing and proofreading. She is a frequent speaker for genealogical organizations such as the National Genealogical Society, GENTECH, Everton, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, as well as many other societies around the country. She has published articles for Heritage Quest, Everton's Genealogical Helper, Journal of On-Line Genealogy, and many other magazines. She is the co-author of Memoranda of Marriages Solemnized by Herbert E. Wylie, Methodist Minister in Western Michigan and is the recipient of four Texas State Genealogical Society writing awards. Barbara was the Conference Chair for GENTECH97, a member of GENTECH Board of Directors (1996-1998), and a Queries Consultant for Everton's On-Line Service from 1995-2001. She was the editor of the GENTECH Conference Syllabus (1994-1995).
