Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, June 12, 2004 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Elizabeth "Liz" Nitschke Hicks Program: "Little Known Sources for Genealogical Information" Have you searched through all the usual records such as probate files; state and federal censuses; birth, marriage and death notices; and tax files, looking for information about your ancestors? Do you need new ideas about additional places to look? If so, you'll want to hear what our guest speaker, Liz Hicks, has to say about some of the often over-looked resource materials. Liz will share information about Church Records, Denominational newspapers, Funeral Home Records, Special Records (Southern Claims Commission), NUCMC (National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections) and an almost never heard of source-"Sleeping Beauty". Liz is a fourth generation Texan and a descendent of pioneer Germans of Austin and Travis counties. She is the originator of the "Angels" program for the Clayton Library Friends, and is presently serving as the President and Genealogy Editor for the German-Texan Heritage Society. She is also a professional genealogists and a past contributing editor for "Tree Talk", the publication of the Cherokee County Genealogical Society. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Theresa Wentz will present a program on "Using the Norton Ghost Program to create regular backups for your hard drive as a protection against computer disasters". ETGS publishes the "East Texas Family Records" four times a year which features articles and records concerning our six counties and a monthly newsletter "The Bulletin" which features information about our society, things of interest to our members and information about our six counties.
