Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, June 11, 2005 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: John Wylie Program: "What the Pros Know - Tips from 14 Years Working on Other People's Lines" John Vincent Wylie, a full-time professional genealogist, will be sharing tips and tricks he has learned in over fourteen years researching full time. Some save time; others save money, many relate to finding lost or obscure records, but most show how to glean the most from the records we encounter most often. Using real-world examples, John will have an open question & answer so you can ask for help with your brick wall. John serves the National Genealogical Society (NGS) as a member of the NGS-GENTECH Advisory Committee and the National Standards Committee; The Dallas Genealogical Society as Vice-President for Education and his church as Chair of the Information Technology Committee. From 2000 through 2003 he served on the Board of the Association of Professional Genealogists. He is the 2004 recipient of the Dallas Genealogical Society Lloyd Bockstruck Distinguished Service Award. One of GENTECH's founders, he served as its president for five years. He was general chair for two GENTECH national conferences and has served on the program committee for other national conferences. He was an active participant in the Genealogical Data Model Working Group, and served on the NGS Computer Interest Group Committee in 1999 and 2000. He and his wife, Barbara, present programs and seminars throughout the U.S. He has served the Dallas Genealogical Society as Director for Special Interest Groups, Director for the Computer Interest Group, on the Records Preservation Committee and on the Capital Expansion Committee. He specializes in teaching genealogists how to use computer technology and computer users how to do sound genealogical research. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Beverly Odom will present a program on "Digital Imaging for Genealogists". ETGS publishes the "East Texas Family Records" four times a year which features articles and records concerning our six counties and a monthly newsletter "The Bulletin" which features information about our society, things of interest to our members and information about our six counties.
