East Texas Family Records is published by East Texas Genealogical Society four times a year. ETGS represents six counties which are Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith. ETGS also publishes a monthly newsletter - The Bulletin which is edited by Beverly Bailey Odom. ETGS regular meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium starting at 2:00 p.m. After the regular meeting and refreshments the Computer Interest Group meets to discuss topics relating to computers and genealogy. Our dues are $20/year which entitle you to all four quarterlies for that year and all bulletins from the time you join. Back issue quarterlies if available are sold for $5.00/each with postage paid. For more information on ETGS, you may go to our website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/ or you may contact me at: scottfitzgerald@tyler.net SUBMISSIONS: East Texas Family Records welcomes previously unpublished source material from its readers. The prime requisites for all materials are that they should be as useful in 50 years as they are today. We will strive to publish a variety of material on each of the six counties represented by ETGS. Although exceptions may be made, material relating to our six counties prior to 1900 are of the most interest. Articles concerning other areas will be used occasionally if of sufficient interest to many people. Material from old and/or rare unindexed books will also be considered. Priority will be given to courthouse, Bible and cemetery records, but we are very interested in publishing the following types of source material: Biographical Family Sketches, Lodge Records, Old Diary Accounts, Census Records, Marriage Records, Old Letters, Commissioners Court Minutes, Military Muster Rolls, Post Offices, Confederate Records, Mortality Schedules, Probate Abstracts, Deed and Land Records, Newspaper Clippings, School Lists, Jury Lists, Obituaries of East Texas Citizens, Tax Lists, Library Microfilm Holdings, and Voter Lists. When submitting Bible records, please give name of person possessing Bible, give date of publication, if known, make sure all information is legible and accurate if copied by hand. When submitting cemetery records, please give exact location of cemetery, date copied and name of copier. PUBLICATION: To be considered for publication, an item or article should have a reliable reference and should not be based entirely on "tradition." We do not wish to publish items from books now in print, however, such references may be used as footnotes to clarify sources. Please be certain all material is legible. Xerox copies can be used, but typewritten articles are preferred to avoid errors in transcribing handwritten material. Please include your name, address, e-mail address and day-time telephone number with all material submitted. The editor must retain the right to accept or reject materials and to edit those chosen for publications. Credit will be given to each contributor. If requested, material may be returned, otherwise it will become property of the Society. QUERIES: Queries submitted by members will be published as space is available. Please type or print each query on a separate sheet of paper. Capitalize all surnames and include at lease one date and place. Limit your query to 8 or 10 typed lines and carefully recheck for accuracy. SUBMISSION DEADLINES: Spring issue - January 15 Summer issue - March 15 Fall issue - June 15 Winter issue - September 15 ETGS welcomes any suggestions for improving our publications. ETGS does not assume responsibility for errors of fact or opinions expressed by contributors. However, we strive to publish reliable source material, and errors will be corrected when submitted in writing. ETGS POLICY ON THE REPLACEMENT OF PERIODICALS The East Texas Genealogical Society strives to publish a maximum of genealogical information at minimum costs, in order that the Society's publications may be widely available to all who are interested. Consistent with this objective, certain restraints are necessary in regard to replacement of periodicals, which were not received by the intended recipients. Hence, if a member, institution or other organization fails to receive a copy of THE EAST TEXAS FAMILY RECORDS, the quarterly, ETGS must be notified within six months of the publication date of that issue. Otherwise, the intended recipient will be supplied a replacement copy only if copies are still available and only at the published price. The ETGS Newsletter, "The Bulletin," primarily carries news of short-term interest and back issues will not normally be supplied. If there is a special need for back issues, the recipient will be quoted a price for which they may be ordered. PUBLICATION DATES ARE: MARCH 31, JUNE 30, SEPTEMBER 30, and DECEMBER 31 of each year.
