Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, May 14, 2005 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Sue Mercer Thompson Program: "Using Confederate Pensions" Anyone who is searching for a Confederate ancestor will find this program helpful. Sue Mercer Thompson is very qualified to guide you to the best resources. She will cover how to locate these records and how to use the resource to search for additional information. Ms. Mercer became a family genealogy researcher when she joined the Pleasant Run NSDAR Chapter in 1997. After retiring from the Duncanville ISD, she transferred to the Sarah Maples NSDAR in 1999. She completed the Field Genealogist Training in 2001 and serves as Registrar for Sarah Maples. Sue has proven her lineage to twenty-four Colonial ancestors, twenty-four Revolutionary ancestors, and nine Confederate ancestors. Ms. Mercer is the President of the Martin's Hundred Colonial Dames XVII Century at Mabank, a member of Mid-Cities Bluebonnet Chapter of UDC, and a member of the Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge. She transcribed and published the Sussex County, Virginia, Oaths of Allegiance, which she discovered on a research trip to Virginia. The Society's meetings are free and the public is invited. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Beverly Odom will present a program on "Using Microsoft Excel".
