HOLLOWAY. Is J. T. the John T. Holloway who moved to Upshur County and is he James P. Holloway's brother? John T. Holloway (1820-1877) was a minister of the Christian Church and is said to have moved to the Pritchett area of Upshur County from Rusk County around 1865. James P. Holloway was also a minister of the Christian Church and the first pastor of the First Christian Church in Longview. He is buried at Peatown Cemetery. I have his birth and death dates as 1818-1884 and his father as David Holloway. Does anyone have the month and day of his birth and death? John T. Holloway married Mary A. REID. James P. I really goofed when I asked for information from a death certificate for Ethel Mae King Walton. I have no excuse other than I was in a hurry to get the letter finished and my computer unplugged because of stormy weather. She died 12 January 1989. Thanks to those of you who pointed out my error. INTERNET RESEARCH FOCUS OF GENEALOGY SEMINAR The East Texas Genealogical Society and the Tyler Family History Center will conduct a free seminar, Saturday, March 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1617 Shiloh Road, in Tyler. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with sessions lasting until 3:00 p.m. Finger foods and drinks will be provided. The highlight of the seminar will be a presentation about Internet Research by guest speaker, Don Raney. If you would like to know more about using the Internet as you search for information about your ancestors, you will want to attend this seminar. Don will discuss techniques that could increase the likelihood of locating records, as well as share information about some of the many sites that contain valuable records. Mr. Raney is a sixth generation Texas who has been an active genealogist for twenty-five years. He currently teaches Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and TMG Genealogy courses at Richland College. He is a past Director of the Dallas Genealogy Society and GENTECH and a life member of the San Jacinto Descendents. He as been a speaker at numerous conferences and society meetings throughout the state including the Dallas Genealogy Fall Symposium, the Houston Genealogical Forum, and the Angelina College Genealogy Conference. There will also be sessions designed to share information about using Heritage Quest (aka TexShare); recording source record data while using the PAF5/Legacy software program; and using Family History Center research materials that are currently available or can be ordered for your personal use. Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, March 13, 2003 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Peggy Fox Program: "Beyond the Compiled Service Records" If you've looked and looked but haven't been able to locate information about one or more of your ancestors who served in the Confederacy, you'll want to hear what Peggy has to say about locating records. She will give you new insights about possible locations to consider. Even if you already have a Compiled Service Record for your forebear, there may be additional information available. Peggy is the director of the Confederate Research Center at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. She is a professional genealogist who specializes in locating Confederate forebears. She answers hundreds of inquiries each year and conducts workshops in and out of Texas. She has assisted video and movie companies, publishers, and authors with matters relating to the War Between the States. She has written columns for genealogical quarterlies as well as the Confederate Veteran Magazine. She transcribed and compiled The Missouri Confederate Pensions and Confederate Home Application Index, that was published by Hill College. Peggy is a frequent speaker at social and civic clubs, and genealogical and historical associations. She has been a quest speaker on radio shows and at the Texas State Genealogical Society's Annual Conference. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogist, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Civil War Round Table of Waco, and several genealogical societies. She is the granddaughter and great granddaughter of Confederate soldiers from Tennessee and Mississippi. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. The Gregg County Genealogy Society will meet Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in the Moeschle Room of the Longview Public Library. Personal genealogical sharing and visiting among members begins at 6:30 pm with the business meeting and program at 7:00 pm. Visitors are always welcome. We have a double treat for you with Betsy Lanclos and Ruby Burnett. Betsy will bring a reproduction of a "Dear Jane Quilt." The original Dear Jane quilt was made by Jane Stickle in 1863 in Shaftsbury, Vermont. It is an amazing quilt with 265 squares. Betsy is part of the Gregg County Lawrence Family and she and her dad have been in genealogy for years. Ruby Burnett will bring an "Underground Railroad Quilt" and explain how they were used by slaves fleeing to the North and Canada. These quilts are full of symbols and codes. My father was Sheriff in 1915 when my oldest brother was born in the jail, where the family resided. Have a picture of him when he was sheriff and also one when he was a City Marshall, but cannot find out where he was City Marshall. If you would like for me to give you the information on my father and/or could lead me in a direction to maybe how to find out about where he was marshall. I am 74 years old, would like to know something on my father. He was born in 1876 in Rusk Co., I cannot verify this as they say there are no records to search. I am researching the death of Longview (Gregg-Harrison Co) City Marshal George M FABLER who was shot and killed by L L TEAGUE and his son L W at the Capitol Hotel in Marshall (Harrison Co) on 24 Sept 1886. Marshal FABLER had attempted to arrest Jeff TEAGUE 3 months earlier and the shooting was over this arrest attempt. I am interested in newspaper articles,family information and the burial location of the city marshal.
