    3. Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, January 8, 2005 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Cheryl Vaughn Program: "Beginning Indian Research" Proving Indian heritage is one of the most difficult tasks a genealogist faces. Our guest speaker, Cheryl Vaughn, will provide tips about where to start your research and share information about the various records that are available. She will also point out the places you should not spend time looking for information. Cheryl began her efforts to prove her Indian heritage in 1997. Since then she has received her certificate degree of Indian blood and has become a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation. She has traced her Indian heritage back to Nancy Ward, the Indian woman who helped the American Patriots during the Revolutionary War. She is a member of the First Families of the Cherokee Nation, the Sarah Maples Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Continental Society Daughters of the Indian Wars and the Confederate Rose Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is currently waiting approval for membership in the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. Cheryl is a volunteer librarian for the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society. She has compiled cemetery books for the society and has recently published her own book, Desperate Characters of Van Zandt County. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Dennis Copfer will present a program on "The Importance of Shortcut Keys and How Genealogists can make use of them". Information on upcoming programs can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/meetings.html East Texas Genealogical Society represent six counties which are Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith counties. ETGS publishes the "East Texas Family Records" four times a year which features articles and records concerning our six counties and a monthly newsletter "The Bulletin" which features information about our society, things of interest to our members and information about our six counties. ETGS has began a First Families of East Texas covering our six counties. To find out about this program go to following link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/firstfam.html . She may have been married to W.W. BELL in Gladewater. I don't know is her maiden name was Sage or Legg. I would like to know "everything" about her. Just recently found out she existed. My cousins did not know who their grandparents were, and I found them but then discovered the early death of their Grandmother, Emma M. Legg SAGE. There isn't any info on her husband Lester SAGE, other than what I found on the 1930 Census. He was born(census) abt 1896 in MO. On the census for Enid, OK he is listed as a "stillman in oil refinery." Does anyone have info on this family?

He was my daughter's gggrandfather. I have his birthday as11/23/1882 Grove, OK. Her ggrandfather was William Morgan born in 1919, brother of Carolyn. He may have been born in Southwest City, Mo. or Grove, OK. Sarah and Webster Wickett are buried in the Zena Cemetary, as is Lottie Morgan, Wouster, and Ester who died at age 1. I don't know what happened to Jack, but William died in Oregon in 1991. JP went into WW1 and it looks like Lyle A. Fox showed up in 1920 census in Okmulgee, OK (capital of Choctaw Nation) single and a laborer. Since, William was born in 1919, I have to wonder about his paternity and the reason JP split??? Please get in touch if you have any more information. If I can find William's birth certificate, I can get a roll number for my daughter. But I would like to know more about JP.

In accordance with this Resolution, an "Act to Support the Families and Dependents of Texas Soldiers" passed on December 15, 1863.
