Before that they were from Alamance County, North Carolina. I have that the originator was a Peter Huffman born Abt. 1734 Palatinate, Germany and died in Alamance Co., NC. I only found one Albert Huffman in my file, but he was born in Harrison Co., TX and too young. My Huffman family information primarily came from a book about the Huffman family, "A Book of Remeberance", that was well documented by a Huffman descendant from Harrison County, TX. I really "goofed" in my letter to you earlier this evening. In a round about way I do want to connect these Waltons to the Varnells. But I really want to connect them to GARRET WALTON, my g grandfather, who was born 20 February 1799 in Albermarle County, Virginia and died 29 July 1878 in Pacific, Franklin County, Missouri. Anne Walton Wilson
Subject: Walton graves The following names were found in the Trinity Churchyard in New York City. I would like to connect them to my ALBERT VARNELL who was born 14 July 1817 in Tennessee (probably Sevier County) and died in Whitfield County, Georgia 23 September 1880. The date is the date of burial. ETGS also publishes a monthly newsletter - The Bulletin which is edited by Beverly Bailey Odom. ETGS regular meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium starting at 2:00 p.m. After the regular meeting and refreshments the Computer Interest Group meets to discuss topics relating to computers and genealogy. For more information on ETGS, you may go to our website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/ or you may contact me at: scottfitzgerald@tyler.net SUBMISSIONS: East Texas Family Records welcomes previously unpublished source material from its readers. The prime requisites for all materials are that they should be as useful in 50 years as they are today. We will strive to publish a variety of material on each of the six counties represented by ETGS. Although exceptions may be made, material relating to our six counties prior to 1900 are of the most interest. Articles concerning other areas will be used occasionally if of sufficient interest to many people. Material from old and/or rare unindexed books will also be considered. Priority will be given to courthouse, Bible and cemetery records, but we are very interested in publishing the following types of source material: Biographical Family Sketches, Lodge Records, Old Diary Accounts, Census Records, Marriage Records, Old Letters, Commissioners Court Minutes, Military Muster Rolls, Post Offices, Confederate Records, Mortality Schedules, Probate Abstracts, Deed and Land Records, Newspaper Clippings, School Lists, Jury Lists, Obituaries of East Texas Citizens, Tax Lists, Library Microfilm Holdings, and Voter Lists. When submitting Bible records, please give name of person possessing Bible, give date of publication, if known, make sure all information is legible and accurate if copied by hand. When submitting cemetery records, please give exact location of cemetery, date copied and name of copier. PUBLICATION: To be considered for publication, an item or article should have a reliable reference and should not be based entirely on "tradition." We do not wish to publish items from books now in print, however, such references may be used as footnotes to clarify sources. Please be certain all material is legible. Xerox copies can be used, but typewritten articles are preferred to avoid errors in transcribing handwritten material. Please include your name, address, e-mail address and day-time telephone number with all material submitted. The editor must retain the right to accept or reject materials and to edit those chosen for publications. Credit will be given to each contributor. If requested, material may be returned, otherwise it will become property of the Society. QUERIES: Queries submitted by members will be published as space is available. Please type or print each query on a separate sheet of paper. Capitalize all surnames and include at lease one date and place. Limit your query to 8 or 10 typed lines and carefully recheck for accuracy. SUBMISSION DEADLINES: Spring issue - January 15 Summer issue - March 15 Fall issue - June 15 Winter issue - September 15 ETGS welcomes any suggestions for improving our publications. We also welcome constructive criticism. Let us know what you would like to see published. Please send all material to: June Everheart, Editor (e-mail: everheart@tyler.net ). ETGS does not assume responsibility for errors of fact or opinions expressed by contributors. However, we strive to publish reliable source material, and errors will be corrected when submitted in writing. ETGS POLICY ON THE REPLACEMENT OF PERIODICALS The East Texas Genealogical Society strives to publish a maximum of genealogical information at minimum costs, in order that the Society's publications may be widely available to all who are interested. Consistent with this objective, certain restraints are necessary in regard to replacement of periodicals, which were not received by the intended recipients. Hence, if a member, institution or other organization fails to receive a copy of THE EAST TEXAS FAMILY RECORDS, the quarterly, ETGS must be notified within six months of the publication date of that issue. Otherwise, the intended recipient will be supplied a replacement copy only if copies are still available and only at the published price. The ETGS Newsletter, "The Bulletin," primarily carries news of short-term interest and back issues will not normally be supplied. If there is a special need for back issues, the recipient will be quoted a price for which they may be ordered. PUBLICATION DATES ARE: MARCH 31, JUNE 30, SEPTEMBER 30, and DECEMBER 31 of each year. Did you find it? Do you know for fact the Kennedy's went to Arkansas? Do you know where Ruth and Wm married? It seems that the McClain's were in Arkansas by 1923 [appx yr of birth for James McClain] and William and Ruth married about 1927/28 according to the 1930 census and Bonnie Ruth born in Caddo Parish makes me think they married in LA after the McClain's went to LA ? Perhaps the Kennedy's were in Caddo Parish in 1920? Did you look at the Kennedy's in the census in Caddo Parish ? The 1910 Texas and most 1920 census records are soundexed. You only find the head of household on Ancestry.com but the soundex cards lists all persons on a 3 X 5 index. William would be on a card with age, place of birth and the head of household he would be associated to. These are done by state/county. This may give you a lead if you can find the soundex cards. I am sure there is probably more than one William Kennedy born in Texas about 1909 but not a great deal. You can find this information at most major libraries or a Federal Archives. I don't know where you live, there is one in Ft. Worth, TX. Do you know what county in AR he died in? Actually I would try to find a death certificate first which should have same details as that of Ruth's. What county in Arkansas did they return to? I found one William in the SS Death index for Oct 1978 in Faulkner County AR, born 11 Mar 1908. Sorry this is not much assistance. Paula
