Surnames: Sage, Legg, Bell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IiB.2ACE/751.1 Message Board Post: Valencia, I keep burial records for the quaint Rosedale Cemetery which is located at the intersection of Hwy. 80 East and Loop 485 in Gladewater, Gregg Co., TX. I have Emma Marie Sage buried in Sec. A, near the north fence in the northeast part of the cemetery which is a part of the original cemetery. She has a flat single marker with dates of 11/22/1929 - 4/11/1935. Although, her DOB conflicts with the date I found for her in a Gregg County Death Index listing I have thoroughly combed through at the Gregg County Courthouse. It has she was born 11/22/1909. They also have the name of Legg listed in this listing. I also have Edna E. Bell (wife of W. W. Bell) buried in Rosedale. She is buried in Sec. A and dates on her flat single marker are: b. 1905; d. 1942. But the Death Index has her DOD as 7/30/1942. I may have them both included in my Rosedale listing that I have posted on the Gregg County TXGenWeb site at: http://txgenes.com/TxGregg/Cemeteries/Rosedale.html I am trying to get photos of all markers and post them online with the listing, but I'm not sure if I have photos of these markers yet. If not, I'll try to add them soon. Let me know if I can be of anymore assistance. Etta Withers email: ettawithers@yahoo.com

Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, October 8, 2005 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Marynell Bryant Program: "Using DNA to Identify Your Family Lineage" Marynell Bryant, Genealogical Researcher and Lecturer, will be sharing the history of genealogical DNA sequencing and surname studies, along with an explanation of scientific terms and test procedures. She says the term "genetic genealogy" may be new to the vocabulary but its significance to family researchers is growing daily. Genealogical DNA testing primarily involves the Y-chromosome which is passed from father to son through the generations. The significance to genealogists participating in the DNA surname studies is finding other individuals whose DNA matches closely and then comparing the lineages to identify the most recent common ancestor. DNA surname studies are useful not only to the male participants but to any researcher who has a connection to that particular surname. Marynell says that genealogists can identify, prove, and extend their family lineages through this new scientific breakthrough. The implications for what genetic genealogy can help family researchers achieve are exciting and challenging. The next few years will see an even greater growth in the number of DNA surname projects as genes actually provide proof of our lineages. Marynell is DNA Surname Project administrator for Rainey group study; current president of Hopkins County Genealogical Society; instructor of genealogical courses at Paris Junior College; past President of Texas State Genealogical Society, 1990-1993, and lecturer for genealogical society meetings and seminars in Texas and Arkansas.
