It was located on Hwy. 217 between Tyler, Smith County and Gladewater, Gregg County in Texas (later was called Owentown). UT Health Center Hospital is located near where the base once was. You might browse the Smith County TXGenWeb site and see what may have been posted there. I was a very small child during Camp Fannin's heyday, but do remember my hometown of Gladewater was booming during that time with all the soldiers coming "over the county line" to Gregg County to party and buy alcohol because Smith County was dry. I've noticed some historical markers along Hwy. 217 and a stretch of the road has been named in honor of Camp Fannin. Hi folks! My name is Linda & I work at the Longview Public Library in the genealogy department. I have long been a member of this email list and get all the messages mailed out. So if you try to email me at the library, It's like sending me a second request .... I got it the first time & will do my best to help as soon as time allows. When I see a request for information, be it an obit or a question for any kind of information regarding who, what, where, how, or when, for a person, place or thing in Gregg County - & I think I can help, I will respond. The list does not see the response, because it's sent out privately. Please continue to ask for research by way of the list... I may not be the only person who can help... You don't have to email me privately, here at the library. I work one weekend a month and am off 3 weekends. If you send an email after 6 p m on a Friday - please don't get upset if you don't get a response til Monday.... If I work that weekend, I will do the lookup as soon as I can after I get to work at 9 am that Saturday... Please keep the requests coming... I am more than happy to help anyone who is in need... Thanks! Linda H Laminack Genealogy/Local History Longview Public Library Longview, TX 75601 903 237 1359

The American State Papers have been useful for me. Now the Library of Congress has combined many congressional and other documents under one search engine. Hint: Don't search for "Washington." :-) http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amlaw/lawhome.html Gary Pinkerton
