[Colter seems to be about 7 miles north of Dennison] Have photo of Martha made by Caradine, Sherman, TX as well an a ukn.gentleman, made by R.Wear in Sherman. Is this person with a full face and fully scraggly beard, with a large satin bow behind the beard the Keirsey to whom she was married? Martha Senter, dghtr of William Butler Senter< William <Henry<Stephan & Eleanor Ann Ware, was one of four sisters with a brother, William. She was also half-sister to Addiebell, Fannie, and Ella, dgtrs of WB and Harriet Isabell Gracey. ADDIEbell married to WILLiam Armstrong Porter, son of Hugh LESLY Porter & SARAH Elizabeth Armstrong on Sept 15, 1881, Alvarado, Johnson, TX. Their first three sons were born there. They moved to Grayson Co before the birth of their son, Ralph, Jan 3. 1893 in Whitesboro, Grayson Co. Both Earl and Vera (Jul 31, 1900) were born in Macomb, Grayson Co. Macomb was probably near Whitesboro. Has anyone any information about the grain elevators in Grayson, TX? Or law enforcement? Could be that my grandfather, Will Porter, worked there before moving to Ceta Canyon and ranching for a year. They moved to Tulia in Swisher County where he was Sheriff for sometime, later establishing the first grain elevator on the plains. They were no doubt involved in the Methodist Church. VB in NM
My grandfather Robert Lee GRAY was born in Gordonville on Feb.2,1892 and was the son of Alonzo Crittendon GRAY and Margaret Ellen WATKINS. Alonzo and Margaret were married in Fannin Co. in 1878 and they were listed on the1880 census there. By 1900 they were in Young Co. I am trying to find Alonzo (Lon) GRAY'S ancestors and family. There is a possible connection to SANDERS and McDANIEL family so I would like to correspond with anyone researching any of these names. Jan Gray jgen@interdata.com

I am researching the above families who settled in Grayson, around Whitewright, Van Alstyne, and in Collin around Anna, Westminister, Sedalia in the late 1880's and 1890's. David Franklin DUNN married Sarah E. FARRAR in Gadsden, Ala. and they along with several relatives; John W. DUNN, his wife, Nancy PACE, Jeff FARRAR, and several other FARRAR uncles, and cousins came in late 1880's. Many are buried in the Cannon Cemetery in Grayson Co. The HUNTER'S came from Clinton Co. , Kentucky. Among them was my grandfather, Val Tilton HUNTER. Many of the HUNTER's are buried in Cannon and Elm Grove Cemetery. John GENTRY along with all of his children came to Grayson Co. in the mid 1870's and settled close to Van Alstyne. They came from Monroe Co., Kentucky. Buried in Van Alstyne Cemetery. William Younger GLADDEN married to Elizabeth WELLS came after 1870 from Missouri. Both buried in Bells. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Deryl Phillips
July 26 Hello List, I recently subscribed and am looking for further information on my ancestors, Stephen Stephenson and Mary 'Polly' Ann (Warden) Stephenson. Their 4th child, Robert Edward married a Lucinda Emaline Dunlap. My gr.gr. grandparents were Stephen and Mary 'Polly' and they are buried in Vittitoe Cemetery. He owned land between Van Alstyne and Whitewright, south of Tom Bean. He reportedly gave land for the Warden (Worden) Cemetery. He was the principal figure of story about being 'hung' to learn where he his money was hidden. Tree was still standing in Oct. 1997 and we visited it. Lucinda's sister was a Nancy Elizabeth who married Franklin Pierce Thompson and their story was written up in Grayson County publication of 1980. Stephensons married the Sullengers. I'm just getting started on my research. Robert and Lucinda went to Hardeman County in May 1892, where he did quite well. Thanks, Bob Rankin, Oregon

A family of SHURLEYs migrated to Collinsville and/or Ethel in Grayson Co. about 1890. Their names were James, Elizabeth, and kids named Iverson, Mary, Lela, and Fleta. Also James' nephews Elias, Flavius, George, Coleman and Alfonso W. (or possibly William Alfonso). Elizabeth died in 1891 in Collinsville but I can't locate her gravesite. Flavius and Coleman's fates are also unknown. Alfonso married a lady named Tyree and died, 1969, in Tarrant Co. The others are accounted for. I'd love to correspond with any descendants remaining in the area. Thanks, Barbara
I am researching the Wells from Collin County and from Grayson, Van Alstyne. Alexander Wells was in the 1880 census in Van Alstyne. Also living with him was his parents, Jacob W. and Charity Yount Wells. His sister, Mary, and a brother. In Collin county are his sisters, Susie L. Wells Williams, and Eliza Jane Wells Gladden. they lived next door to each other and the their brother, Thomas H. Wells and his wife lived next door to the Gladdens.. Prior to 1880, they were all in Missouri, but I cannot locate any of them in the 1870 census except for the Williams who were in maries county and the Gladdens, were not yet married. Any new clues would be greatly appreciated!! Frankie in Tennessee
