Where will I find marriage records in Grayson Co in 1864 and 1866? I recently found Robert Meek SMITH m. Joan DANIELS 28 Aug 1866 Grayson Co. Her name is actually Joanna DANIEL. Also, Bush SMITH (female) m. William T. Anderson 3 March 1864 Grayson Co TX. Would like to find documentation for both of these. Mary Marler Winham
Can anyone help with a marriage record look-up? Pleading for a bit of help in pinpointing three marriages: 1) circa 1898; 2) another one in the 1920's; 3) and one other in the 1940's. No I don't have exact dates--otherwise, I would write to the courthouse. Yes, I have checked all known volunteer help list. Trusting, there is such a thing as a bride or groom index that someone can access. Hoping for a bit of generosity. Thank you kindly. Please let me hear from you. rustydouglas@charter.net
Since I subscribe to ancestry.com, I checked the 1850 index for grayson county. Nothing, as you said. ancestry.com just recently added a 1880 index. There was one Churchill Moss in Flounce Rock OR, born in Texas in 1844/45. If you do not have this information, email me direct and I will send it to you. Pat Russell
I am looking for my g-g-grandfather, Churchill Moss who was born in Grayson County, 1844. His father may have been named John or Samuel. I have not had any luck finding his family in Grayson County census records. Anyone else searching for this Moss family?
There were some Moss's in the 3rd Texas Cal. in the Civil War. Also a J. D. Moss signed an affidavit for my great grandmother in 1913 so she could obtain a a pension on her husbands Civil War service. Coleman County & Rusk Counties were involved in the pension process. ----- Original Message ----- From: <KupunaCo@aol.com> To: <TXGRAYSO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 11:27 AM Subject: [GRAYSON] Moss family > I am looking for my g-g-grandfather, Churchill Moss who was born in Grayson > County, 1844. You asked "Did any of your Burden families marry into the Cordray families?" My response: Not that I know of. I only have C L Burden that married a Kittie Blair. b. around 1890 in Grayson Co. (I am doing Blair/Langham research) Their two boys were C. L Burden II and Leo Burden in Alaska & Texas. I do not have Leo's wife's maiden name yet. I will keep a watch on new info I gather for the name "Cordray". Will post it if I find anything. cablair

Hello list, I hope you are all having a good time with genealogy. I mostly have been adding bits and pieces in the website such as postcards , but I finished an upload that those with family in Whitesboro may enjoy. I received a disc with scans of the 1924 Tatler yearbook for Whitesboro. It is in full and very interesting to see the era and the students and their activities. I also received the 1921 tatler which I will work on next week. It took me about three days to get this one up so I need a short break to say howdy to my family. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/1924tatler.html

I'm looking for info on Joshua and Desdemona HARALSON of Collinsville area. I find no record of them being buried in Collinsville cemetery, where much of their family is. I also wrote the city cemetery for a records check. I have also looked through all the transcribed Grayson Co cemeteries I can find on the Internet. They were on the 1880 census. Are there additional old cemeteries in that area which are not yet transcribed? Could they have been buried on their farm property? If so, could the graves have been subsequently removed, destroyed, etc.? Could their graves been marked with wooden markers, which have long since deteriorated? I would appreciate any suggestions of where else I might look for info on these two ancestors. I presume any county death records were destroyed in the 1930 courthouse fire. R Ellis Austin, TX
I am trying to locate the burial location of Lucinda Embry b. abt 1825/26 KY, wife of Burrel/Burl Embry. Burl Embry was b. 1820 and died in 1897 and is buried in Cherry Mound Cemetery, Grayson Co. Texas. He is buried next to his son James T. Embry, however there must be a typo error in the transcription of the cemetery, as it has James b. 1853 and died in 1897 as well, however James T. Embry is on the 1900 Grayson Co. Census, with his mother Lucinda living with him. Lucinda was still living in 1910 as she appeared on the census with her two other sons William S. and Burl Embry (Jr). Lucinda was 85. I am also trying to locate Burl Jr. and William S. Embry, two other sons who lived with their mother Lucinda. They do not appear, so far as I have looked, on the 1920 census. But in 1926 in Grayson Co. William S. Embry married, a Joney Cody? Any information of Lucinda, William or Burl would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nancy M. Boyd PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. My grandfather requested JOE GRIFFIN & WOODROW PERRIN to officiate his funeral. My grandfather attended a Baptist church in Sherman but failed give the name of the church. Does anyone on the list know these men & the name of the Baptist church they attended? I am writing an article for the Frontier Village historical book, I would love the be able to name the Baptist church he attended in Sherman. I know absolutely nothing else about these men. It's poke shot & I am fishing to see if by chance anyone know these guys & the Baptist church they attended with my grandfather. Now, about that being a different question? :) Thanks! Vicki

They all came to to Grayson Co togehter. The book really tells a story. It is a good book to read. It is more than just facts it is a story of the hardships they endured, plus the good times they had. . From the book We date back to 1250, or near that time, and aredescended from William deBlair, Baron of Scotland and further down it says Our Immigrant Blair, marrie dsarah Sutter, daughter of George Suter of York, Yorke County, PA. ____ Henry Albert Williams (1884-1947) William Blair left Penn for southern Va shortly after the war to broker cotton to mills in Ireland. Instead he found his calling as a consignment agent for Pidmont tobacco. From the book Also in the book are pictures of the families. docs, maps and etc. Rusty Williams did a great job on this book and I read it from cover to cover as I would read any novel. And so until I get into my data I can't answer you questions. Yes, the parents of James Monroe Blair was James Harvey Blair and Fredonia Wilkins. James Harvey's parents were William Blair and Margaret McCauley. But James Monroe Blair's wife also was from Grayson county. She was Phoebe Alice Langham b. 1872 in Indian Territory. But her parents both died when she was a few months old. She was raised by Samuel J Handy & wife, in Grayson county. Her father was Wiley Washington Langham Jr. and his father was Wylie Washington Langham Sr. The most of the Langhams were from Collin County TX. Are the Handys or Langhams mentioned in the "Scatterlings" book? Lots of Blairs were in Grayson county. I am sure there is a connection, but I haven't found it yet. James Monroe left his father's home in Calhoun cnty Arkansas after his mother died and his father remarried. He was only about 14 when he went to Grayson co. He must have had some relatives there, who he knew about. He was so young to go striking out on his on. But he made a "go" of things somehow. He never lived at his father's house again. But he kept in touch with him, I understand. Does any of the above trigger a thought? I have many John Blairs in my data base. But none have a middle name of Francis. However, most do not have a middle name given. Do you know who the parents of John Francis Blair might be? I'll bet he is related someway!
