Hello, Someone posted an old email about the "HOAX" of Janet Reno I had sent 11 days ago to the list and I apologized again. I need your private email to forward a letter from one of the members which I find very offensive.
Where have you been? LOL this is 11 days old and I have had my lesson in hoaxes. <BG> Wished you hadn't sent it to the list though. I will be hammered to death again. Hi, this is my first time to post on Grayson. Below is my lineage & I am wondering if any Hightowers in Grayson County are researching this line. I am particularly interested in information on my great-grandmother, Alabama "Bama" Joyce Shelton Gray (She was married to a Mr. Gray before marrying Thomas Preston Hightower). I am seeking info on her as well as her first husband. They had one child that I know of, Jack Gray. I know he had a wife (unknown) & a daughter named Joycie. Alabama was Thomas Preston's #3 wife. JOSHUA (1643), thru his son JOSHUA (1670), wife, Eleanor Charnold, thru their son CHARNELL (1694), wife Sarah Stone Glascock, thru their son JOSHUA (1741), wife, Mary Polly Puckett thru their son THOMAS (1772), wife, Elizabeth B. Pollard, thru their son CHARNELL C., Sr. (1796), wife, Elon Watts, thru their son THOMAS PRESTON (1817) & #3 wife, Alabama ("Bama") Joyce Shelton (Gray), thru their son JOSEPH HAMPTON MADISON (1874), wife Mary Jane Wilkerson ("Mimie"), thru their son REUBEN BUTLER (1909), wife Eula Bert Phillips (1910), my parents... Do any of you have any information on this line? Thanks, Shirley Hightower Johnston [email protected]

Dear List, Would somebody please do a census lookup for me? The person I am interested in is Susan JOHNSON in 1880 Grayson Co census. She shows on pg. 168, and I assume this is on the original census. I am interested to know her age, birth state, and if she is head of the household, married, etc. Would like to know the name of her husband, IF he is listed. The couple I seek are listed on the 1870 Grayson Co census. She is listed as Susan JOHNSON, age 50, born AL. Her husband is listed only by initials, and they are not clear. He is age 45, born AL on 1870 census. I am hoping this 1880 "Susan" is the same as 1870 "Susan". Thank you very much. Judy

Hi, My gg grandfather Robert H. Shelton migrated from Hart County, Ky to Grayson County sometime after the 1880 Census. He is buried in the Whitesboro Cemetery. I am trying to establish when he migrated. He owned land so maybe a deed would give some information. His son Garnett was later a Magistrate in the county. I would appreciate any deed information or any other information about these Shelton's. Ken Shelton of Kings Mountain, NC
Well my Morris bunch are going for the top of the list -- consider these 1. Critical -- to me -- death certificate not forwarded to Austin, think I've finally found county [Nueces] but person lived in Grayson as a child. 2. Jane Combs Phillips reads her tombstone, but Combs was her 2nd husband and she is buried next to her first husband [great difficulty finding obit and an chase to find Combs connection] 3. Many of the Morris' and Burgess' who resided in Grayson County [pre-1900] are buried in Red Hill Cemetery in Roger Mills County; NONE of them, evidently, ever lived in RM County. 4. The Burgess' [buried at Ethel Cemetery] may have changed their names to Burgers [at least that is on one of tombstones] 5. I've been searching for a William M. Morris, now the death certificate of one child gives James Morris as father [sure hope widow was wrong...] AARRGH Cheryl
Dear List, Seeking any info on (initials are not clear on original census) E. F. JOHNSON, age 45, b. AL---- wife Susan JOHNSON, age 50, b. AL----and G. E. SHANKLES, age 13, b. MO. They are listed on pg. 53, Dwelling #338 on 1870 Grayson Co. Census. G. E. SHANKLES is "Gracie" and she has a brother living with my line of JOHNSON in MO. Just above on the census is A. J. ENGLISH family. Can anybody connect to this JOHNSON family? I have a wealth of information on my line, and this man connects some way. I believe he is a cousin, and would really like to find out who his parents were. Thank you very much. I received this and if it is on the level, all I can say is OH BOY, you better watch your back. Janice/Texas I didn't even realize I was a "cultist" until I read Janet Reno's definition of one (see below). Now, I find out I'm not only a cultist, but a threat to my country! I don't think I need to say any more! Read this statement from Janet Reno: "A cultist is one who has a strong belief in the Bible and the Second Coming of Christ; who frequently attends Bible studies; who has a high level of financial giving to a Christian cause; who home schools for their children;who has accumulated survival foods and has strong belief in the Second Amendment; and who distrusts big government. Any of these may qualify a person as a cultist but certainly more than one of these would cause us to look at this person as a threat and his family as being in a risk situation that qualifies for government interference." -Janet Reno, Attny. General of the United States during an Interview on CBS "60 Minutes" on June 26, 1999. Do YOU qualify as a cultist by Reno's definition? Are you (as defined by the US Attorney General) a threat to the U.S.? This concerns me. Does it bother you? Everyone in this country- "the land of the free" with computer access should copy this and send a copy to every other man, woman and child who has the ability to read.

For Zella: I have found Texas History Departments in libraries have county histories with the information we need of the early days. The early Plat Books, etc, but they usually have to be asked for and brought from back rooms - some are on microfilm. Of course, some county histories are in the Genealogy Departments. There were Indian raids in Cooke Co TX. FYI: There is a Dixie Cemetery two or three miles north of Whitesboro Grayson Co TX. To All--- "Eye on the Internet", a CBS Radio program, will feature several genealogy-related guests on Monday and Tuesday, July 17 and 18. The program is broadcast in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on KRLD/1080 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.(Central). Among the scheduled guests are: the author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Online Genealogy"; Myra Gormley of Rootsweb; and the author of "Scatterlings: Blair, Williams & Turner to Texas, 1858 to 1873". Program host Katie Pruett will also include discussions of stories and websites contributed to her by members of this list. I'm told that "Eye on the Internet" is in the process of being syndicated to other CBS Radio stations around the country. Its a long shot but you might try the "Indian depredations in Texas" book. It is a large book. Many libraries have it. It was written back in the 1890s I think but has been reprinted many times. I found two of my relatives mentioned in there. It is a large group of stories told about Indians attacking.
