New to list. Where would be best place to look for cemetery info on the Enloe family? I'm trying to locate burial site of Nanny Enloe Freeman, who supposedly died in a fire while cooking in an open fireplace, abt. 1877. Her husband took their two daughters to St. Joseph's Academy to live, and their son to the Enloe family. Thanks Sallie
I have subscribed to this list in digest form, thank heaven! I would hate to be inundated by all that mail. Donna Brand's e-mail states: > The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address.< However, over 50 % of the e-mails in the digests are requests for someone to search for people in various cemeteries. There are already a couple of websites for that. I think the list admin. needs to restate, in very firm terms, that this is *not* a search list! Donna Boyd
Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. Donna, the lead technician, of the RootsWeb Help Desk has complimented me with a request to join her on the RootsWeb desk, which made me feel really good, but my main focus is our cemeteries. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand
Hello: Does anyone know of Martha Frances (Coleman) Camp and her daughter, Alice E. (Camp) Osborne who might have been living in Grayson Co., Tx. about 1900 -1930? Would like to share history. Mary Coleman Stewart, Alabama
Anybirthday.com has some birthdays
Seeking information on Alice Camp Osborne and her mother, Martha Coleman Camp. Need to see a 1900, 1910 census of Grayson Co., Tx. Does anyone know if this census is online? Appreciate any information on this family.
Hi everyone, I have been getting a lot of emails where people can't access this site. The only thing I can say is that the site got greedy and want all of us to join and pay a fee or we overloaded their system and we are getting the "invalid" page. I tried using it this a.m. and I couldn't access it either. It opens to the beginning of the main page and I clicked "search for birthday" and entered the data but them it came up "invalid". Sorry about all of this, but maybe wait a day or two and try again. As I said it may have been overloaded. also for the ones that can't reach it by the http://www.anybirthday.com/ try www.anybirthday.com and see if that works for you, some ISP won't let you click on an embedded URL, you have to type it or copy and paste. I know it works, or did and as I have said it gives the birthday of the person you are looking for, I found mine again. LOL but when I started using it this a.m. I got the "invalid" page. Sorry that it isn't working right now-but try later. Cheers Janice
I called the County Clerk's office and found that Hibbitt was in Cooke Co. She found the birth certificate I was looking for also and offered to send me a transcript for FREE !! Thanks to those that posted. Laurie

I would be interested also, my husband had a young uncle murdered in Grayson CO between 1920-1925. His name was Newton Burns. A neighbor boy called him out and shot and killed him. And then everyone thinks that the shootings of today are new. NOT---been here every since the making of guns. Before that it was sling shots. I don't want to get a thread going about "guns" etc... but nothing changes in the world. As long as there are two people left standing there will be disagreements. Hi, Do any of you all have the URL that was posted to do lookup by name/birthday? The information came from the voting/registration and car registration . You could enter a name and the birthday would come up on that person. Would appreciate if you do and send to the list or to me privately. My name and one daughter was listed, but I am needing newer birthdates listed, that aren't listed on the State of TX URL. Thank you for your assistance. Janice/TX
I'm interested, also. My great-grandmother, Martha Hestand, died in about 1859 at the age of about 20, cause unknown. She lived in the Kentuckytown area. Any direction would be helpful. There IS a Hibbit Cemetery however in Cooke County (beleive its still cooke there) near Gainesville texas.. this would have also been in the Whitesboro area as well.. often there might be a named "community" even if it never formally became a town.. Hibbit is where my ggg-grandpa's brother Charles Roff, his wife, and two sons are buried. The cemetery is next to a small church (Hibbit church of course!) and is near the Walnut Bend area north-northeast of Gainesville.. Can give you directions to the cemetery if you need them.. but havent got the info here at work at the moment the US Gvernments GNIS service at http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/ may be able to map this for you and give you the exact location.. its down at the moment but hopefully will be up quickly.. Interested in that "thompson" name.. my g-grandmother married (3d husband) a James Thomas Davenport from the whitesboro area.. whose mother married a thompson as her second marriage -----Original Message----- From: Charles & Nancy Royall [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, August 20, 2000 1:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [GRAYSON] Hibbitt There is no Hibbitt listed in the Texas Almanac for any county. I'm new to this list so bare with me if this question has been asked before. My grandmother Lula Alice ANDERSON listed Hibbitt, TX in 1909 as her birthplace on her Social Security number application. Was this in Grayson Co.? Her parents were John Thomas ANDERSON and Lula Alice THOMPSON. Family stories say that John Anderson was a sheriff. They had 5 daughters Letta, Mary, Isla (Jackie), Sally, and Lula. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Laurie
Thanks so much to everyone for all the information on my obituary/death certificate search! I did request a death certificate both from the state and the county to no avail. The year was 1913. One person sent a suggestion to check with the Dennison LIbrary as they have an obituary card file which dates back to the 1880's. I called the library and they will call me back in the next few days. Another person sent the website for the Univ. of Texas Library which shows the newspapers available on microfilm. This is a great list! Thanks so much! Judy Oklahoma City
There are no death certificates available for many people who died outside of Sherman and Denison prior to the late 1920's. Certificates were not maintained for people who died in many of the rural areas. In addition, death certificates for people who died in Denison prior to the late 1920's can be found at the City Clerk's office in Denison. My grandfather died in 1950. and it isn't on any level. There is a number for it, but no one has it. Not even a copy for the funeral home. Just to let you know, sometimes even today they aren't taken that great care in. Frances N. Armaly [email protected]
