    1. [GRAYSON] Souther
    2. James Young
    3. Is anybody searching for Souther here? I have a great grandmother who is Mary Alice Souther, born 1874 in Illinois. She married to John Henry Carter in Illinois, then they moved to Collin County, Texas. He was a railroad man and he was living in Anna, Texas. Mary Alice Souther Carter had a brother name William Andrew Souther who live in Grayson County. William died in Denison, TX and buried in Dixie Cemetery. William is a Baptist Preacher. Mary Alice and William Andrew Souther have a brother and sisters I couldn't find. Name are: Andrew Souther, Lucinda Souther, Sally Souther. I do not know their birthdates and I presume they were born in Illinois too. If any ring the bell on the Souther's family, will appreciated any information on this family. Thank. Teresa from Oklahoma

    3. Mike, I, too, am interested in the Pattons of Grayson County. I'm researching James Madison Patton who married Rachel Davis. This family moved to the area from IL shortly before 1860. They had 3 boys that I know of: Rufus A., Dr. W. D., and William T. Would this be the same family that you are interested in?? 1. [GRAYSON] Texas Cemeteries Directory
    2. Donna
    3. From: "Donna" <[email protected]> Many hours have been spent recently compiling a new "Texas Cemeteries Directory" which is hoped to benefit every Texas Genealogy Researcher and at the same time encourage the preservation of our Cemeteries. The new Directory shows over 21,000 cemeteries found on line with information about where each one was found in an easy to use format. The directory includes information about those cemeteries that have been inventoried and where to find them. So far those who have visited this new Directory have made such comments as "What a neat idea." & "You've really hit on something here." In addition our web site hosts the list of cemeteries which have reached the protected status of "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation, whose program was developed by "The Texas Historical Commission". We also have a special page where those who have labored to write books about our cemeteries can announce the availability of those books, sell the books, buy a book, or trade them. Most well organized cemetery inventory projects sell the books to fund the project. We all know how expensive it is to work in our cemeteries and believe this is a vital part of encouraging their preservation. There is lots more to see, so come check us out, and while you're there leave a message about a neglected cemetery in our guest book. These posts are followed up on by the folks at "Save Texas Cemeteries" and the folks who manage the "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation program. With your participation it is our hope to encourage the location, inventory and preservation of our Historic Texas Cemeteries. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~txcemeteries/ We look forward to your visit, donna

    1. [GRAYSON] A bit of history
    2. A Elizabeth
    3. DENISON (Grayson Co.) Corner of Loy Lake Rd and Park Lane, US 75 Sand Springs .....about 100 yards North). " A noted watering place on pioneer trails, known as early as 1840 to settlers and prospectors who camped near the strong currents of water boiling up at the foot of a rocky bluff. The sandstone of the bluff's face became an inscription rock, in which travelers carved names or initials and dates of their visits, sometimes to assure friends or relatives, who were to follow later over the same trail. The campsite for prospectors, including California-bound gold seekers passing the way,( 1849-1850) was mapped in 1857 as a watering spot for Southern Overland Mail coaches of John Butterfield, racing from Saint Louis to San Francisco. After the Civil War (1861-1863) many cattle herds passed this way for water while being driven north to market. When Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad was built to Denison townsite in 1872, Sand Springs gained new importance, feeding Waterloo lake, built in late 1800s and used for many years (prior to 1908) as city's main water supply. But the old campsites were inundated. Other steps in man's progress reduced flow of the water. The area remained a popular picnic ground for years. Its history is revealed by the weathered carvings still visable on the inscription rock."

    3. Rea, I found my Grandparents 1871 Marriage License in Sherman Court House. I walked into the basement and perused the original - very well organized place. Maybe you could call or write them. I found a beautiful Chenoweth history in "History of Grayson County Texas". Scanned different articles, but did'nt see Walls mentioned. The emigrant to Texas had 6 daughters. Sorry I didn't have more time, as it is well worth the reading. cjh ------Original Message------ From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: January 6, 2001 9:00:59 AM GMT Subject: TXGRAYSO-D Digest V01 #4 Content-Type: text/plain TXGRAYSO-D Digest Volume 01 : Issue 4 Today's Topics: #1 [GRAYSON] Grayson Co Cemeteries ["Shirley Webb" <[email protected]>] #2 [GRAYSON] Grayson County Cemeterie ["Paula S Parke" <[email protected]] #3 [GRAYSON] 1886 Marriages [[email protected]] Administrivia: To unsubscribe from TXGRAYSO-D, send a message to [email protected] that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text.
