Do you perhaps know when the rest of the index for the newspaper will be placed online? All the ones I need to look up are at the end of the alphabet.. Thanks, Becky RE:at the libraries by borrowing film from the State library in Austin or by writing them for the article. The info is on the newpaper page; http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/newsarticles.html Armed with the page/newspaper/date and column you can find out if they have that newspaper in their collection. If they have it then you can write for acopy of it. Or borrow the film for coping it yourself and read other news of the era. The searchable index they have on their website is another index and not the same as the type of index that I find at the Sherman Library

A lot of folks where the girl was underage went to Oklahoma to get married as they did not ask any questions and did not have a waiting period like Texas did. They also did not have a blood test requirement. This went on from 1900 up to the 1960's. A lot of folks from Paris TX. Cooper, Delta Co. and Van Alystine went to Hugo, Choctaw Co. OK for marriage also. It was "just across the river." It was close enough that you could get there and get married before anyone could protest it. Charlie

Hello list, Is anyone on the list familiar with the history of the OLD MACOMB CEMETERY? Or, does anyone know where I can find the history? The parents of both my father and my mother are buried there. Any help will be appreciated, Hugh Stover Jefferson Dallas
Susan, Thanks for the reply and for all the work you do. Right now, the only way I can search for family history is "part-time" on the net, thru others hard work and kindness. The searchable index they have on their website is another index and not the same as the type of index that I find at the Sherman Library. Their index is another way to perhaps find an article. Not all newspapers have been indexed, lots of artilces have been missed I'm sure by both indexers so slow examination of the paper is the best choice but hard to do. You can also buy newspaper microfilm through the state library. A copy is made from their master film. I havenot done so and wish I could. If I had a microfilm reader and films I could put a lot of articles online. Would be wonderful if someone liked to do that type of volunteer work in Sherman or Denison and prepare the articles to upload. Thanks for the Sherman Daily Register link..now how do I access the actual Biographies. Is there a link or where can I find them please...Anne in Australia
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/cwanewspaper.html Right now it only goes to P, I have more to add on that one then there are two more of the old ones , all indexed by the CWA in the depression about 1935. There are about 400 or so pages if I recall in the set and I will get them all. It takes time. There were two main papers before the Sherman Democrat, the last of the three indexes covers mostly that thru 1935, because of their timing it is very important. Not all the newpapers are on microfilm though at the Sherman library , since 1935 their were various editions that are gone. Sometimes you can find them at the library in Austin. Right now they do not have enough volunteers to answer very much in the way of genealogical questions but perhaps I can find a volunteer or set up a lookup day every 3 months or something. As soon as I finish city directories I will have more time. They are like wading through molassas. I don't know of a more miserable piece of webwork than a city directory. Sometimes when I go to work on them I wished I cut my toe or bang my head just so I'd have a good excuse to go do something else ! :) I figure though that if you find a listing and have the column, page and edition, you can go to the online card catalog and see if that paper is there or email the reference desk and perhaps they can manage to copy it since it is a direct date/placement etc. But if they can't the state library in Austin can. Cross you fingers that more volunteers can be found. The one that was so good died a couple of years ago. She was a library volunteer. The regular librarians try to do it all but there just isnt' time with the jobs that need doing. The Grayson County Genealogical Society doesnt' have a work group or volunteers to boost the genealogy work in the area. Also they do not have a quarterly, which is ashamed. It would be wonderful if they could do that. I write the articles that are put in the Fannin County Flashback so I'm up to my eyeballs in that when I'm not loading to Fannin and Grayson TXGenWeb's. There is a need for volunteers. Write me tomorrow about your Townsendns and let me know if you have already checked the three main biographical books of the county. I've got permisson to put an index online for two of the three books so far and will try to get too it. If I seem so slow I work on a lot of volunteer projects and also teach sometimes. I do a lot of lookups so most days I spend all the spare time I have handling those, but I do type on something everyday for the genweb or the quarterly. And I try to sneak in time on my own genealogy once in a while. If everyone would volunteer to do something where they are living, for the records there, everything we desire would be online at our finger tips.
