Some of these questions might be answered if I could have found an obit for Mr. Gardner. He apparently did not live here when he died 23 May 1980, and in any case there is no obit in the Pampa paper for him. He died in Potter County, and by chance I was in the Amarillo central library and tried to find an obit for him on 23 May or several days thereafter. No luck.
