Didn't the Pampa HS used to be across the street from the movie theater? Anyway, it isn't there anymore (open fields and a drive-thru bank), and the theater is closed. Otherwise, downtown hasn't changed a bit since the 50s. My mom said the only time she ever ditched school was to sneak out to see Grapes of Wrath. I'm in the process of scanning over 100 photos I took on two visits through Hemphill, Roberts, Donley, Carson, and Gray Counties last fall (L.A. to NJ and back), and will have them online this week. The nicest surprise was the extraordinary museum in Miami...if you've never visited their amazing collection of early panhandle exhibits, it is well worth the trip. Glad you found us, Berry...please tell us something about the families you research in and around Gray County. Thanks, LaRae listmgr. panhandle families....
