    3. Sorry. Correction. Robert Alexander Mackie had a son named Robert Alexander and he is probably the father of John Sanford and Edd. -----Original Message----- From: John Payne <johnthepayne@yahoo.com> To: TXGRAY-L@rootsweb.com <TXGRAY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, September 24, 2000 3:28 PM Subject: [TXGRAY] MACKIE FAMILY >Posted on: Gray Co. 3. The Gray County Heritage book has writeups on some of these Mackies. Page 392 and 393. There is an extensive writeup on John Mackie b1872 in NC, son of Robert Alexander. Sounds like yours. There are two John Sanford Mackies and all I can figure is that Robert Alexander had two wives. If you do not have this wonderful book, perhaps our webmaster would copy the pages and mail to you. Incidentally, my family was close friends with the Edd Mackie family. Edd appears to be one of the children of the second wife. Thank you for the birth date of Viola. And yes, James Henry is the son of Henry & Lura. James' wf. was a Terbush and then his sister Nina Adella married a Terbush, whom I think were bro & sister. But I don't know for sure. They had another sister, Nettie who married a Douglas. This I got from some of the Texas records. But I don't have complete dates & places they occured & I don't know for sure that all are still around Alanreed area. I just know that James Henry & wf. and son James Gary are buried in the Alanreed Cem. It's a start.......I don't wish to take up all the Gray co. spaces up with so much, so if you don't mind, you can email me directly and then they will have more room for other queries. Thank you so much for this help. Sincerely, Sue

    2. John A. Mead
    3. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/61 Surname: Hinkle ------------------------- I note that the Texas birth general records do indeed show that Virginia Louise Hinkle was born in Gray County 26 November 1940. Through the 1940s, at least, I do not find John Henry Hinkle or Lillie Mae Hinkle in the Pampa city directories. For all I know, they may not have even lived in Pampa, If they did, Lillie Mae may have remarried after her husband's death, or she may have left the county entirely. I do note that the Texas death records show that a Lillie Mae Hinkle died 27 February 1966 in Bexar county; it is said that she was widowed. To confuse things, there is also a Lillie M. Hinkle who died in Tarrant County 27 December 1977. Can either of these be yours?

    3. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/60 Surname: WETSEL ------------------------- More on the Wetsels. The Texas birth general records show that Viola Jaunette Wetsel, father Henry Wetsel, mother Lura Wright, was born 26 Decmber 1933 in Gray County. So, the Wetsels did live in Gray County at one time. Nothing on the birth of the other children. I also note that the Texas death records on the internet show that a James Henry Wetsel died 3 December 1995 in Potter County--could this be the son of Henry and Lura?

    2. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/59 Surname: Wetsel ------------------------- There is no Alanreed paper now; Alanreed is a very small hamlet. If the Wetsels had relatives in Gray County, their obits might be in the McLean paper, or even in the Pampa paper. I will look when I have time. There is no Alanreed cemetery list. One Delbert Trew of Alanreed has several incomplete lists from various sources, and is trying to put together an accurate and complete list. I might write him and see if the Wetsels appear on any of those he has.

I thought that since Henry & Lura were buried in the Alanreed Cem. that maybe the paper there would have obits, or maybe there was an Alanreed Cem. book that would have listings of these families that may also be buried with their parents. Sincerely, Sue

There is a death certificate on file there and it indicates his son (Sam) took care of the burial. It looks like it was actually a nephew and is very likely the Sam McClellan d. 8 Aug 1979. I'd be very pleased to have the obituaries you mentioned and you can't believe how much I appreciate your help. I live in Abilene and if I can ever be of assistance, call on me! Wetsel died 15 May 1977 in Hutchinson County. Also, a Lura Della Wetsel died 2 August 1986 in Hutchinson County. Surely these are yours? If so, it is in Hutchinson County, not Gray, that you must look for obits and the like for them. Hutchinson is next door to Gray on the east.

    3. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/54 Surname: McClellan ------------------------- A computer list of those buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, McLean, Gray County, Texas lists 2 Sam McClellans, presumably father and son. The listing of the senior Mr. McClellan does not give the date of burial. The date of burial of the junior Sam M. is 10 August 1979. I looked in the "Pampa News", Pampa, Texas, county seat of Gray, and have an obit for him in the paper for 9 August. he died 8 August 1979. The obit mentions a son in McLean, Bernard. I have just noticed that the list of those buried in McLean gives a Bernard McClellan who was buried in Hillcrest 30 November 1996. I assume I can get an obit for him. If you want both obits, send me your snailmail address.

But sometimes you need info that is in the years inbetween. (I wish that they would also put in the 1903-1925 records and earlier year deaths and marriage dates too. Maybe someday -- probably after I don't need them, my luck, ha ha.) And that seems to be where I'm at.... I was hoping to find out more about this family thru county records, obituaries, cemetery records, etc. I know that the mother Henry E. Wetsel & Lura D. Wright Wetsel are buried in the Alanreed, Gray co., Texas Cemetery, but what happened to their children and their families are what I'm trying to find. If you know of another way I can go, please let me know. Sincerely, Sue

Visit the Gray County TXGenWeb page at... http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgray// ...there are links to Gray County records extracted from the main Texas B-M-D database, or you may use the links directly to the online records. Mr. McClellan died in adjoining Donley County and his son Sam McClellan (jr.?) of McLean, Texas directed his father be returned there for burial. I suspect Mr. McClellan is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery. The death certificate did not list the parents so this absolutely all that is known about Mr. McClellan. Any information concerning the descendants of the senior Sam McClellan will be appreciated. Especially helpful would be an obituary from one of the area newspapers.
