    3. > Hello, I have a missing line of Campbells in Gray County, TX. JACK WILLIAM CAMPBELL and EDNA MAE WHITE (who was from Cottle County, Chalk, TX) settled in Lefors by 1936. They had four children there, and I suspect an older male child somewhere else before they came to Lefors. Jack William Campbell said on my father's b.c. that he was a truck driver. He signed his name differently on each of my aunt's b.c.'s. He signed Jack William. J.W. and Jack Willie. This leads me to believe that he may have gone by the name of J.W. or his middle name Willie. Otherwise why change the middle name. I have searched the death index but haven't found anything yet. There were a lot of Edna Mae's back then. The children were: BERT BERNICE CAMPBELL b. in 7/1937 VERNA DEAN CAMPBELL b. in 10/1938 JO ANN CAMPBELL b. in 4/1942 JACK (Jackie) LEE CAMPBELL b.in 3/1936. {This is my father, who was married six times. I only met him once back in 1982, and he was engaged to his sixth wife. He married my mother in 1962 in MD and I was born in 1963 they were divorced in 1963 too, after which he moved back to Gray County, Pampa, TX. He had two children in Germany who are older than me, by another wife, when he was stationed there in the Air Force. He was an M.P. He also had two daughters in TX when I went to visit and they were born around 1966 -70. One of them was named Laurie but I don't remember the other girls name. Later I find a record of a marraige that looks to be his, in Pampa on 3-31-79 to one Sandra K. they divorced on 9-16-81. If anyone knows where Jack William Campbell or Edna Mae White are buried or when they died, please let me know. Sheila Lee Campbell Georgia U.S.

Holder died was buried in the cemetery 7-13-1911. I do not know whether I can get an obit. I made a compilation of obits from the "McLean News" from 1909 to 1998, and do not have one for him in the compilation. I will look at the microfilm again--it may be that it was one of the issues which were too dark from to copy or even read. The only other Holder in Hillcrest Cemetery is Annie Margaret Holder, buried 29 June 1906. Can this be a daughter of John W.?

    1. [TXGRAY] October Roll Call
    2. Hello everyone, October's roll call will focus on just one generation of your GRAY COUNTY family. It will be a twofold project, including data and also a bit of 'color.' 1. Select a family -- husband, wife, and children -- and give whatever birth, marriage, or death dates and locations you may have for each one of them. (You may submit one for each of your Gray County families.) The second step is optional, but I hope you'll find it interesting. 2. Share with us what you have learned about this family. Have there been any stories passed down through the generations? You may choose one family member to feature, or the family in general. Has your research turned up clues to their daily lives? How were they affected by wars, the weather, or by the frequent and sometimes deadly epidemics? Did they live their entire lives on the same land where their parents had lived, or did they forge ahead on their own? This Roll Call is for the full month of October, so take your time and post when you're ready, but I do hope that each of you will participate. We all collect and record the names, dates, and places for our families, but the stories give them life! Don't forget to replace the subject line with the head of household of the family you choose to feature. I ask in advance for permission to place your Family Stories on the GRAY COUNTY webpage, along with the other accounts of early life in the County. In the happy event that you have photographs of the persons you feature, please send them to me OFFLIST and I will include them with your accounts. I will leave you with a thought to ponder...a hundred years from now, what will be the stories told about YOU? [gasp!] LaRae Halsey-Brooks TimeTrvlrO@aol.com GRAY COUNTY listmgr. 3. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/80 Surname: ------------------------- Thank You for your response to my posting. To answer your questions. I was told that Alva (Alvie) and Emma lived with Bennie and Pearl in 1936, at the time of Bennie's death. They must have resided with him in 1935 when the directory only lists Benjamin. In the 1936 posting, C.L. stands for Clarice Lee. Bennie died 7-2-1936, in an automobile accident returning home from a job in Skellytown. He was riding in the cab of the truck, leaned out with his foot on the running board, to speak to the men in the rear of the truck. His foot slipped and he was thrown to the ground. The rear wheel of the truck passed over his body, crushing him. Bennie was my great grandfather. His daughter is still alive in San Antonio. After his death, My GGrandmother, Pearl and their daughter moved to San Antonio. My grandmother did not have much contact with the rest of the family after her father's death. I was told her grandfather Alva (Alvie) moved to Oklahoma with Bennie's older brother. I would like to know if there was an obituary for Bennie. How much trouble would it be to find one and how would I go about it?

    1. [TXGRAY] Subletts in Gray County
    2. John A. Mead
    3. Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/79 Surname: Sublett ------------------------- A quick look at the early Pampa city directories: the first we have, 1933, shows Alva W. (wife Emma), Benjamin A. (wife Pearl), and Lillian Sublett. The 1935 directory shows only Benjamin. the 1936 shows Benjamin and C. L. What happened to Alva and wife? When did Benjamin die? If he died here, might be able to get an obit, and maybe that would tell where the others were living at the time. Now. The SSDI shows a Clarice Sublett who died in Gray County in January 1974. If I can find an obit that might show where some of the others were at that time. I will look when I have the time. The Texas vital records in the Internet show several Subletts who were born, married, or died in Gray County in fairly recent decades. The trouble is that I cannot yet connect them to any of the children of Alva. The problem is increased by the fact that another family of Subletts came to McLean in Gray County, a John Sublett, wife Callie. For all I know there may have been other Sublett families who came here at various times. Maybe the relationships of these Subletts to yours, if any, will become evident later.
