Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/135 Surname: Dyer ------------------------- I was off today, and so went to Fairview Cemetery. Just as I got there, a police car had the entrance blocked off and a funeral procession was pulling in. So I went to the clerk's office instead. Shirley Edwina Dyer died in Gray County 30 December 1946. I do not see why you could not get a death certificate from the county, if you want it, but of course you would have to write them, get the form, fill it out, pay the fee, etc. Let me know if you want the address of the clerk's office. I have the brief obit from the "Pampa News". Laverne Ann Dyer died 8 April 1948, and I have her obit. Will send both obits gratis if you want them. When I am off and the weather is good will try to get to the "Baby Garden" of Fairview Cemetery, which is where the obits say they were buried. Will see if there is a stone for either or both. Today was warm and would have been a perfect day--but the funeral was there and so I decided to wait.

He was 63, and had lived in Pampa for 17 years. Buried in Fairview Cemetery here. Survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters. Can this be yours? If so, I have his obit, and will send it to you gratis if you want it.
Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/132 Surname: DYER ------------------------- John, Thank you so very much. John and Mollie are my Grandparents. Then my Uncle Fred and Aunt Virginia, cousin Frank and little Laverne who, I believe, died at birth or close to birth. My understanding is that Uncle Howard and Aunt Geneva were visiting Pampa when Shirley became ill and died. It would be wonderful if you could check the index and the cemetery. (I'll have to ask an Aunt if she knows where Grandpa and Grandma Dyer were in 1947. Gratefully, Harlene
Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/130 Surname: Dyer ------------------------- I find John and Millie in the 1945 city directory for Pampa, at 832 Denver. Also in 1946. Not in 1947. The Texas birth database lists Franklin Laman Dyer, born 7-25-1945 TO Fred and Pearl Virginia Dyer. Also, Laverne Ann, born 4-7-1948. I do not see a Howard Dyer in Pampa directories 1945 to 1948. About Shirley E. Dyer--I can check Monday to see if she is listed in the Fairview Cemetery records. Or if there is a death certificate for her in the indexes to the certificates in the clerk's office.
Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/129 Surname: Lane ------------------------- I will try to find an exact date of death and an obit for Mr. Lane, but it will be Monday before I can call the clerk's office or the cemetery office.
Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/128 Surname: Cary ------------------------- D. W. Cary was, I think, the father of Fred Cary, Pampa lawyer; and Claud Elmer Cary. one time Gray County judge. In turn, C. E. Cary was the father of Tracy D. Cary, long-time Pampa musician and historian. All are now dead. I can probably get from the White Deer Land Museum here in Pampa some obits for all of them, but will have to wait until the middle of next week before I can go there.

Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/121 Surname: DYER, PATTERSON, HALLETT ------------------------- My Grandparent's, John Alexander Lovely DYER and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" PATTERSON DYER lived in Pampa for a time. I believe my mother, Vina Lenora DYER (Hallett-Soper)was baptized at the Baptist Church in Pampa ca. 1928. I don't know if the family was there steady, but they were in Gray Co. ca 1945-1948 at least. Some of mama's brother's were: Fred DYER m. (Pearl) Virginia HALLETT - their son, Franklin was born in Gray Co. in 1945, they lost a baby there (Laverne Ann) in 1948; Howard L. DYER m. Geneva Renfro..they were in the Pampa area when their daughter Shirley E. DYER (just a few yrs. old) died between Christmas 1946 and New Years 1947. She is buried in the Pampa Cemetery, I understand. The family hasn't been able to get a death certificate on her. We,in the extended DYER family, would greatly appreciate any help or clues you might be able to share. Thanks so very much and have a JOYOUS Christmas!

Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/120 Surname: Bell, Sublett ------------------------- >From the "McLean News", 17 March 1916, members of the class of 1916: Mable Watkins, Lettie Bogan, Ethel Stockton, Maggie Jordan, Thelma Beall, Winnie Newton, Sallie Lou Haynes, Odessa Smith, Lillie Hudgens, Alma Nunn, Eunice Ballock. Boys: Evan Sitter, Kelley Patterson, Elvin McClain, Joe Glass, Johnnie Back, Erwin Rice, Charles Cousins. >From the "McLean News", 26 April 1918, members of the McLean High School class of 1918: Jewel Cousins, Alma Anderson, Euice Stratton, Lois Bullock, Willie Morton, and Leona Watkins. Boys: Hughes Quattlebaum, Foster Van Sant, and Millard Newton. No Bell listed in all 3 classes, 1916 to 1918.
Posted on: Gray Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Gray/119 Surname: Bell ------------------------- >From the "McLean News", 16 March 1917, list of seniors of 1917: Girls: Grace Whatley, Maudie Wilson, Bettie Christian, Bessie Christian, Blanche Mayald, Alma Evans, Thelma Rodgers, Verda Dean, Mary Henry. Boys: James Noel, Boyd Reeves, Robert Robinson, Robert Turner. No picture--just the list. Just an interesting note--the class gave a play, which netted funds, which enabled them to stay in school about a month longer. Otherwise, school would have been cut short in March, because of lack of funds. So. No Bell, no Sublett, one Robinson. I left the page with the class of 1916 on it at home--will type those names in tomorrow. Could Bell have been in the class of 1918, and left for the Army before graduating? In which case he would not appear in any picture or list? Or could the picture under "resources" be a picture of the class of 1918? Will see if I can find a list of graduates of the class of 1918 in the paper.
Does anyone have any documents or information on the High Windy School? I'm particularly interested in records from the years @ 1904 through 1920 or so. My family's name is Becker, and I know my dad and his siblings attended High Windy. I know the building is now being used at the gun range near the fair grounds. Thanks, Mary Ann Becker Tipton
