I use free IrfanView as my picture program. http://www.irfanview.com/ It will batch rename all types of files. You just need one picture in a file so you can open the program. It will take out spaces, etc., or it will add a cemetery name or something on all of the names. It will also batch make all of your pictures a smaller size file. I also use IrfanView, but there is a bit of a learning curve with it. Just play with it until you get the hang of it.
