    3. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with. First, I've been given about 80 years (1915-1995) of funeral home records for the Afro-American community in this area with permission to use them on our website.  I have a table listing name, date of birth, date of death, name of parents, and cemetery.  Then by clicking on the name, you can see the actual record.  You can view this at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txvicto2/dewittfuneralrecords.html  Now am I violating any laws by listing the birthdate or death date?  If I deleted the dates in the table, would I be able to still give them access to the record which has the dates?  It is such great info that could be very hard to find.  I really need some advice on how to handle this. Second is a computer problem.  When there is an email address on a website page (like contact John at [email protected] ) I can't just click on it to send a message.  I get this notice "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."  If I copy and paste the address, it works.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 from what I've read.  Any suggestions? Thanks, Cynthia Buttram Victoria County http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txvicto2/

    3. Placing the death certificates online is fine, along with the dates from all I have heard. If not, then there are a lot of us that are in trouble! LOL I have Windows 7 and have not had problem with email addresses. I have no clue what would be causing that. 3. I can answer your first question. You are not violating any laws listing the birth and death dates no matter how recent they are. The law only pertains to the Dept of Texas Vital Records database that was temporarily on line. Any dates received from funeral homes, submissions by researchers, newspapers, headstones, etc are okay to use. 3. It means you do not have an email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) installed on the computer you are using to click on the e-mail link. Doesn't matter what OS you have running. "mailto" links have always invoked the email client on your PC. jimmy On 8/19/2014 10:00 PM, cynthia buttram via wrote: > I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with. > > First, I've been given about 80 years (1915-1995) of funeral home records for the Afro-American community in this area with permission to use them on our website. 3. What an awesome set of records you got ahold of to put online. GREAT job! I see Shirley answered you and I agree. Also, I have the same problem with my emails so would like to see Betsy answer. I've just learned to cut and paste and not click on the link to send. 3. Others have described what is causing the message problem you're seeing. But it's not just a problem for you and your computer. The researcher looking at your page may not have a mail client (program) installed on their computer either. Many people have web-based e-mail only, (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc) and will get the same error message as you did. That can be very frustrating. In my opinion, it's best to just put a graphic of the e-mail address in place of the usual "mailto" link. 3. I have photo's of grave stones, and I list the information Birth Date, Death Date on my web pages for the cemeteries in Kinney County. I also have copies of death certificates where I was able to get them. If someone asks for the copy I can get it to them. I have not put them online at this time though. I had the problem with Thunderbird some time back. I now have Win 8.1 and have not experienced it since I switched from 7.
