    3. Ok all you Military buffs.... need little help here. Located information on a family member last night and headstone shows following information: CPL 662 PORT CO TO WWII  (what does all this stand for)  Does it mean he was a Corporal.  (Army, Navy... ?) I located his WWII enlistment record on Ancestory and it states the enlistment date, shows branch as BRANCH Immaterial, Warrent Officer.  (Is this what he was when he enlisted?)   Where can I go to find more information.  He died in Santa Fe Co, NW in 1958...   Robin R Inge "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away"

    3. I do know there is no CPL rank in the US Navy. Many of the men who enlisted for WWII were listed as Branch Immaterial (Warrant Officer), still not sure what that means as this is listed for my father as well. - Linda Simpson ----- Original Message ----- From: Robin Inge To: TXGEN@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, April 12, 2009 9:52 AM Subject: Re: [TXGEN] Military Search Information Ok all you Military buffs.... need little help here. 3. My thinking was it stood for Corporal... and the only Branch with that is Army... but no 662 Division.  ?  Puzzled.   Robin R Inge "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away"     ________________________________ From: Grey Oaks Equine Sanctuary <greyoaks@brightok.net> To: txgen@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, April 12, 2009 9:59:47 AM Subject: Re: [TXGEN] Military Search Information I do know there is no CPL rank in the US Navy. 3. Here is a link to a page on Normandy Allies. It's lists the 662nd Port Co. I haven't figured out the TO part though. 662nd Port Company See Persian Gulf Command Veterans Organization (Alphabetical Units Section) http://www.normandyallies.org/~normand/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=15 Headstones usually list the rank first, then the Unit and then the War. He may have enlisted as a Warrant and something happened where he had to actually serve as enlisted as a Corporal. A Corporal is almost a 1/2 grade. It's an E-4, which is a rank but with leadership duties making them a Corporal instead of an E-4 and during that time frame, almost like God. E5 and above are considered non commissioned officers, supervisors, leaders, etc. On Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 9:52 AM, Robin Inge <wolfhuntress2002@yahoo.com>wrote: > Ok all you Military buffs.... need little help here. > > Located information on a family member last night and headstone shows > following information: > > CPL 662 PORT CO TO WWII (what does all this stand for) Does it mean he > was a Corporal.
