Elaine, I suspect the reason many of the "vitals" were removed is because the FM at that time was tired of the constant harassing of those wanting to be removed from the marriage, divorce and birth records. Typically, when people want things removed they don't understand that search engine caches don't move as fast as we do. The issue is identity theft. There is a certain genre of people that are wanting their names removed from any and all records. We allowed them that right when we stated on our records that if they wanted their names removed, it would be done. When you say "many files in many counties" are you referring to the Vital Records files? or are you referring to something else? If someone succeeds in identity theft from these files, I want in on that action... Who's going to report you???? The vital records are also still there. I think they should be removed. My take is if we have information regarding someone most likely still living, then it's not genealogy!!!
