    3. There is something about this "new" site that bothers me. http://texastombstones.org/ If it is new, why does the copyright say 2003-2009? And why can you not find a name anywhere for who "ownes" the site, or a name to call them when you contact them? And it is obviously so new they don't have any names in the database because when you search for Jones or Smith or any other name, it returns no results. So if it is that new, how can it have been copyrighted since 2003 yet contain no info? They don't know how to spell TXGenWeb either. LOL If we can't determine who has the site, then how do we know what will be done with the info we submit? Will it be sold in books, on cds, or be placed in some places database, such as Ancestry? They won't even give so much as an email address. No thanks. Think I will pass until they decided to at least give their info to the public. This site made me very suspicious. 3. I think it's a placeholder. And, there's no real info. The whois shows that the domain is owned by J&L Consulating.. That's the some folks who supplied the software for the Iowa Gravestone project (iowagravestones.org) and others. 3. This is the information I received from the site when I inquired about why their drop down menu didn't work, no names and that our site was not referred to as the proper name. Not for sure what "program" she is referring to and if they are part of the Texas Grave Preservation. Linda Hughes Crosby/Dickens "Yes, we are a brand new site collecting and preserving the heritage of Texas Tombstones. We are so new, we have no contributions yet. The copyright shows how long the program has been in existence, not how long Texas has been part of the program. As for TXGenWeb being referred to as TexasGenWeb maybe a mistake was made. This site will never be a paid site, it will ever be placed on a cd and sold, this site is here because we care about our Texas past and future. Thank you, Texas Tombstone Team" -----Original Message----- From: txgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:txgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Elaine Sent: Friday, April 17, 2009 3:44 PM To: txgen Subject: [TXGEN] New Texas Gravestone Photos site There is something about this "new" site that bothers me. http://texastombstones.org/ If it is new, why does the copyright say 2003-2009? 3. Whois shows Jeff Lowe of JL Consulting in Cedar Rapids Iowa owns the domain. Now, does that mean it his site or did he create for someone since he is a web consultant, I have no idea. Kind of similar to Mr Holt "owning" txgenweb.org. Yes it is new, domain was created March 16, 2009. Copyright is 1 of 2 things... 1) make it look like it's been around longer than it has, or most likely 2) the footer is a copy & paste and he just simply forgot to change it. I suspect we've all done that!! As for email address, you can always send a message in the contact us form and ask who is running the site, etc. Actually a "contact us" form is the best method for contacting from a website. Everyone can use it, but spambots cannot cultivate any addresses. Mail to links and such are not useful if a visitor does not have a mail client on their computer. jimmy Elaine wrote: > There is something about this "new" site that bothers me. > http://texastombstones.org/ > > If it is new, why does the copyright say 2003-2009?
