Dorman, The problem is that the files that were linked to in RW are not in the archives with USGenWeb now, and when we asked some of the archive managers, we were told they were removed because of the possibility of them being used for identity theft. We had always been told in the past it was fine to link to individual files, but they were removed with no warning......we just suddenly had a lot of broken links and have been unable to find the files in the USGenWeb archives site to relink to. Were we told correctly that files were removed and will no longer be in the archives? Elaine, There was a discussion among the Archives FMs in 2008 concerning the unbelievable amounts of requests to be removed from people "googling" their names and finding marriage, birth and divorce records in the public domain. Some county FMs decided to remove the birth Vital Records because of the 75 year rule in the State of Texas. Its a sticky issue in my opinion. From my experience, I removed hundreds of names a week from those who have requested their names to be removed from the archives. I've been threatened with lawsuits, court cases, bodily harm, cussed, etc. Is there a specific county that you have reference? Dorman, One example is Nueces County Archives. http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/nueces/nuetoc.htm Click on any census and all you get is 404 Click on Birth Records, Death Records, Marriage Records, Divorce Records and all you get is 404 We were told they were removed due to identity theft. So we began investigating and many files in many counties have been removed from the archives.
