I still say they are striping thin slices of wood to make cane and/or spinning rush for chair backs & bottoms. The cane/rush weavers are probably working in the back behind the big tarp. I wove rush/cane chairs for over 25 years almost on a daily basis and it sure looks like that is what they are doing to me.
