I would think that the library has some of the things that I am looking to link to, however, it appears that all the TX libraries require a library card to look at their databases. If you don't live in TX and have a library card, for each specific library, you're out of luck. In MI, and a few other states we have libraries that offer scanned copies of books, directories, genealogies, etc. on their website for anyone to view. These books are not all necessarily for MI. http://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/micounty/ It would appear that TX doesn't offer anything like that to other than people who live there. Thanks for responding though - it got me to looking at the specific county libraries. Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patricia Stephenson" <patsteph@live.com> I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, Jan, but in the current (January/February 2009) issue of Genealogical Helper, page 70, there is an article headlined "Gulf Coast State Histories Slated for Online Access-Houston Public Library Joins Family Search in Digitization Effort." Datelined Salt Lake City, Utah, June 24, 2008, it goes on to say, "Thousands of publications that capture the diverse histories of Gulf Coast states will be accessible for free online. FamilySearch and the Houston Public Library announced a joint project today to digitally preserve and publish the library's vast collection of county and local histories, registers of individuals, directories of Texas Rangers, church histories, and biographical dictionaries. The digital records will be available for free online at FamilySearch.org and HoustonLibrary.org." There are several more paragraphs to the announcement. Univ. of North Texas has "The Portal to Texas History". This sounds similar to what you may be looking for. I have found many items for different counties and they are adding more things. Click on the researchers portal and search from there. Here's a link: http://texashistory.unt.edu/?PHPSESSID=fe12636c4e7d1c7e7ceb74bbe31f422d Good luck on your research! Glad to be of help. <smiles> Not sure whether you have been into the MIGenWeb or not, but, we do have a State search engine that will search all of our counties. You might want to try that as well. http://www.migenweb.net/search/search.pl Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jo" <bjcb@bellsouth.net> > Thank you!
