    3. As a charter member of Footnote and a strong supporter of the site and the goals of it's founders, I am disgusted that they may be resorting to such tactics. I suspect you may have hit a glitch in the system because touting free access and then not giving it is not something remotely resembling their usual business philosophy as I understand it. I have written them a note letting them know that their site is asking for $ when the census is advertised for free for the month and saying "SHAME ON YOU" if that is their intent. It may be that they have not fully indexed the census yet...you used to be able to see how far along they were in the process...but they've changed their layout. I'll need to go dig and see if I can locate the information on the completeness of the index. I'm due to renew my subscription and am waiting to see what they have to say. Susie,   I received a personal message from Peter Drinkwater.  It should be coming through the list soon.  It was a glitch in the system and has now been fixed.   Jo === Chahta Ohoyo Holahta, Honorary --- On Fri, 8/7/09, Suzie Henderson <henderson.suzie@gmail.com> wrote: From: Suzie Henderson <henderson.suzie@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [TXGEN] FWD: A member that checked Re: 1930 Census To: txgen@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, August 7, 2009, 10:28 AM As a charter member of Footnote and a strong supporter of the site and the goals of it's founders, I am disgusted that they may be resorting to such tactics.  I suspect you may have hit a glitch in the system because touting free access and then not giving it is not something remotely resembling their usual business philosophy as I understand it. 3. Keep in mind that it may be they don't have a good soundex or search logic. When I can't find someone, I search for someone else in the household and typically find them and the associated family member. As I said, I have viewed several census images with my free account without any problems. Their web server performance seems to be suffering from overuse, though. I've had my search timed out often. I do like their person page feature, but it needs work. I still prefer the ancestry.com search engine and people finder, though I am having to pay for the data. 3. I'm seeing reports on other lists that, after an initial try, people are now being able to view the images for free. I suspect the site may have been overwhelmed by the response at first. I've been a Footnote member for a while, and I really doubt the problems were deliberate.
