    3. As a former employee in a District Attorney's office, I'd say that execution is just about the only thing that can be done with some criminals. They are hardened, unrepentant and dangerous. We owe something to the innocent of society, and to the victims of such criminals. In the old days, such creatures were either executed or deported, but no country in their right mind would take them now. And there's too much chance of escape if they were dropped off on some deserted island. The Good Book says that "he who lives by the sword shall perish by the sword". Executions not only remove the extremely dangerous from society, but can act as a deterrent. How much of a deterrent, I'm not sure, since lawyers and politicians have extended stays on death row to years and years. To me, that would be more cruel than a quick execution. Wow, Jo...you didn't know you'd be starting a debate, did you? Perhaps it's best saved for Tuesday night chat! 3. You are right, Donna. I thought I was just sending along an interesting link.   Someone mentioned DNA testing that has enabled some to be released, which is a good thing.   Then you have those who have committed henious crimes.  This is proven in a court of law with overwhelming evidence.  In those cases, let the punishment fit the crime.  Many of you remember Paul (?) Bundy who offered to tell where more graves where of women he had killed if they would not execute him.  What a squirming little rat he became when it was his time to die.   My brother's opinion of what should be done to child molesters cannot be repeated in polite company but I do agree with him.   Now, I've probably really opened a can of debate and opinions.  LOL   Jo === Chahta Ohoyo Holahta, Honorary --- On Fri, 8/21/09, Donna Schulte Loth <redpondranch3080@att.net> wrote: From: Donna Schulte Loth <redpondranch3080@att.net> Subject: Re: [TXGEN] Executions Link To: txgen@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, August 21, 2009, 4:22 PM As a former employee in a District Attorney's office, I'd say that execution is just about the only thing that can be done with some criminals. 3. I know that an excellent case can be made for the death penalty. But every time someone gets released from prison because new evidence (usually DNA) has proven they weren't guilty, I have to wonder if there haven't also been executions of innocent prisoners. Just my 2 cents.
