    3. Mine are in a database and I have an awesome volunteer programmer who has put them all online for me. I can edit the records, add obits and family info right online. Suzie Henderson has something similar for Fannin County. I think if it was me and I was just starting out, I would put them into a database even if you put them online another way for now. I really do think we may have a standardized way of putting databases online coming in the near future. See Lamar County's - http://lamarcountytx.org/cemetery/ (and mine have a new look as of Christmas) See Fannin County's - <http://txfannin.org/cemeteries.php>http://txfannin.org/cemeteries.<http://txfannin.org/cemeteries.php>php Betsy At 12:32 AM 1/8/2014, you wrote: >Suzanne, >I have indexes that are listed on the cemetery page for Parker County. 3. Suzanne, I have indexes that are listed on the cemetery page for Parker County. They are relatively new on the Parker site and it is probably a slower way of doing it. I wanted all of the death records (cemetery and obituaries) together. If I have an index of the cemetery, then I also link it from the cemetery listing. I would like to eventually set them up like Betsy has her cemetery records in Lamar County. PALESTINE, March 28. -- Dr. West, a leading physician here, was arrested to-day by Sheriff McManus, charged by Miss Campbell with endeavoring to seduce her from the path of righteousness. She attaches to her affidavit numerous letters written anonymously to her by the Doctor which make spicy reading. No scandal for a long time has so stirred up the community. The doctor has practiced here in our best families for years. The lady is not particularly attractive nor very young, and the doctor is old enough to have grand-children. He was released on bond and denies all knowledge of the letters, and insists that this is a blackmailing scheme.

    3. The way I have handled situations like that is to save the obits or notes as a text file and link to them just as you would a photo from the cemetery listing. It would be best to convert the Word files to text because some of your viewers will not have a copy of word. You would need to make sure that the scans were in a format that all could see using a free software, i.e., pdf, jpg, etc. To put in a link, <a href="images/Photo.JPG" target="_blank">name or other text on your page you are linking to</a> (Photo link); <a href="images/Obit.txt" target="_blank">name or other text on your page you are linking to</a> (A text file link) Hope this helps, if it is confusing I will try to rephrase. 1. Re: [TXGEN] Posting obits
    2. Sue Tackel
    3. Yes, me too. I use old Front Page and I've got lots of obits in different forms. You can put them all in an 'image' folder and do an index that links to different files like page http://www.wisecountytexas.info/obituaries/a-b.htm You can link to pictures, PDF's, documents or to other htm pages you already have up. When I do pages I first try to get every thing together in an Excel file (Last Name, First Name and then the name of the file you want to link to in another column) If you keep this file you can sort in into alphabetical order when you add to it. One of the easiest ways is to make a column in Excel that links to the name of the image or file. Then you just paste that table into your Front Page page. That's how this page was done: http://www.jackcountytexas.info/Misc/1960-2013.htm This page had 3 columns (Name-Type of page-name of .jpg) and was put into text from Excel: http://www.jackcountytexas.info/Misc/jacksboroindex_a-b.htm To work with Front Page if you paste in text, then you have to go into the html tab at the bottom of the page and add <a href=" in front of the line and "> after the line. Then that line becomes a link like in these wedding announcements: http://www.wisecountytexas.info/misc%20genealogy/a-g.htm You have to play around with it at first. If you put little special marks as the first and last columns of your Excel file, and physically link the fist couple of files in Front Page, you can go into your html view and just 'replace' all of your special marks with the html language that that you need to make the links. Hope this works for you. Let me know if you need help. 3. We have over 23,400 obits posted on the Navarro County site, most just the text but I do add images for some. In the obit, I will link to the cemetery, and from their entry in the cemetery list back to the obit. I link to the veterans lists and High Schools lists also if applicable. With that many, I have several hundred pages worth of obits, each with a few dozen obits per page. I do the obituary list pretty much the same way. It's a little more work to add those links, but makes it easy to bounce around the site and connect different pieces of information together. www.NavarroCountyHistory.com On my Carrollton-Farmers Branch TX Town Site (Dallas County) I do a separate page per obit and include all info for that person (high school photo, tomb stone, obit text and scan) on that one page, but it is a much smaller site than Navarro County. I wouldn't attempt that at the county level unless you are only posting selected obits. www.CFBhistory.com Lots of ways to do it but just a couple more examples to help you figure out what is best for your county.
