    3. UPDATE!!!! OK, connected with Mike's second cousin so tonight, we met in Tomball and had dinner with her and Mike's 3 new found half sisters, the half brother just could not get there. It went wonderful. (I'll post pictures on FB by tomorrow) The 4 siblings were not told until Tuesday night. They took it very well. Mike's birthdad had told the 2 wifes he had so they knew about him, but the kids were not told until this all came out. None of the rest of the family that the cousin had contacted knew about him, only the wifes. So looks like this newly found family might just work out. Thanks to the DNA from ancestry.com!!!!!! Mike's birth name(s) were not used, so only the blood told the truth..... Thanks for all the good messages all of you sent!!! Now I can go to sleep.... 3. Excellent resources. I've had great success believe it or not with mtDNA. Had a 1 step match back to the 1700's. Teach a beginners class in DNA in the ALL program and have started a DNA Discussion group for Montgomery County Texas to help others learn to interrupt results. Autosomal DNA is much richer for genealogy research though. 3. I've already replied to Jane privately, but since the topic of DNA has come up and we love FREE websites... I want to be sure everyone knows about www.gedmatch.com. It's a FREE website that allows people who have tested with Ancestry, Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), or 23andme to upload their raw data to compare it to others' results that match yours. For example, if you tested with Ancestry, you can compare your results with those who tested with FTDNA and 23andme, not just Ancestry. There are many useful utilities on the site to help with comparing and analyzing your results that aren't offered on the testing websites. Another FREE website is www.dnagedcom.com, but it is only for those who tested with FTDNA or 23andme. My results haven't been as dramatic as those of Mike and Jane, but I did connect with a half second cousin; I'm a descendent from our great grandfather's first wife and she from his second. She scanned and sent me two photos of him. That alone was worth the cost of the DNA test to me because I have only one very faded picture of him. We're now research partners, sharing our research ideas and frustrations - particularly about our great grandfather, the mystery man, who left very few clues about his parents and siblings. 3. I had to share this with someone!!!! You won't believe this! Mike (my hubby) was adopted when he was 5 days old. He just took the DNA test from ancestry.com and just found connection to his birth father. But he died last year. Apparently no one knew about Mike, so a bombshell is about to fall to 3 sisters and a brother... We found his birthmom in 1992 and that did not work out but she only gave us the birth's dad name NOTHING else. Holy Cow, that DNA does work.. Jane Keppler -- May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NLT)
