Shirley - As best I remember, it was back in the 90's and it was a guy that had it at that time. I think that he died and the website was then given to someone else. I don't know if anyone ever got into the original website. However, if you go to: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txpecos/Meetings/ You get a blank page, not a 404 error. Shows that something is still there. If you go to: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txpecos/ You get a redirect to the new Pecos website. Don't know what happened to the old website. Thanks for Leigh Compton's name. I will contact her about the photos and the website. I didn't want to step on anyone's toes by going to RW first. Does anyone know about the url to this photo page? This was not/is not a county site, and we need to find out why this link is not working. Pictures Taken by Leigh Compton at TXGenWeb Meeting, April 2000 http://www.rootsweb.com/~txpecos/Meetings/ Thanks! Elaine -- Whenever I feel that the world is moving too fast, I go to the Post Office.
Dorman, You were asking Elaine, but here is what I found on San Patricio On the index page - http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/sanpatricio/sanpattoc.htm List of Cemeteries from GNIS (not found) Old Gregory Cemetery (not found) San Patricio County 1850 Index (wrong hyperlink) 1850 index is there, just needs the link corrected. If someone succeeds in identity theft from these files, I want in on that action... Who's going to report you???? The vital records are also still there. I think they should be removed. My take is if we have information regarding someone most likely still living, then it's not genealogy!!! I found other counties with missing links this morning when I first read Shirley's message, but didn't look closely at them at the time. jimmy Dorman Holub wrote: > Elaine, > > <snip> > > When you say "many files in many counties" are you referring to the > Vital Records files? > or are you referring to something else? > > Dorman Holub
I would suggest pointing .org to .net. You can do it as a redirect from .org, or you can do it at the domain level by parking .org to .net. That way it doesn't matter which url a county has, they both go to the same information on .net. jimmy Dorman Holub wrote: > .net is correct > > .org is a mirror site or a poor man's back-up > > Dorman Holub > > On Apr 6, 2009, at 2:13 PM, Deb wrote: > >
I am not understanding why the links are broke. It gives us the correct one and it will take me to the information. UGG I am so confused. I don't link to individual files on the archives... I only link to the index page for the county archive page on my county websites. I decided I didn't want to be accountable for what someone else did or did not do on the archive page. The visitor can go there and look around for themselves.... All those are okay. I have not had a problem with having 1940's births online (mine is in the Dallas County Archives). Just remember that we honor requests to remove information on living persons. The files you have on Kent County are the same as in the Archives and on RootsWeb, but we can not be responsible for those files. I assume Rootsweb/Ancestry must have cleared their search engine cache. I haven't been receiving any record removal requests in the past 2-3 weeks, which has definitely been a nice change. Joe
