    3. As a charter member of Footnote and a strong supporter of the site and the goals of it's founders, I am disgusted that they may be resorting to such tactics. I suspect you may have hit a glitch in the system because touting free access and then not giving it is not something remotely resembling their usual business philosophy as I understand it. I have written them a note letting them know that their site is asking for $ when the census is advertised for free for the month and saying "SHAME ON YOU" if that is their intent. It may be that they have not fully indexed the census yet...you used to be able to see how far along they were in the process...but they've changed their layout. I'll need to go dig and see if I can locate the information on the completeness of the index. I'm due to renew my subscription and am waiting to see what they have to say. 3. From: Peter Drinkwater <peter@footnote.com> Subject: Footnote 1930 Free To: genealogy@bryantsweb.com, bjcb@bellsouth.net Date: Friday, August 7, 2009, 10:14 AM I noticed a recent post to the texgen mailing list and wanted to write to clear up any confusion. The 1930 census is free on Footnote for August.  You can search, view, download, print, and interact with all the images we have for the census. To get the free offer you have to go through this page that was referenced in the promotion, http://go.footnote.com/1930census/ rather than just go straight to the site. Right now the site is overwhelmed with traffic from people using the census, so things are a little slow, but we're working on that and hope you'll give it a try when things speed back up. Sorry for any confusion. 2. I'm pleased that other CC's will put up the data. There's more to come. If you think there wasn't much for 1891, then the 1878 one will reinforce your ideas that Texas was tough - almost 200 pages of villains - and those are just the ones reported, who weren't killed on the spot. There are 3 other books besides these two! Remember that Texas had lots of unrest and dissatisfaction after the civil war. Chris

    3. Thank you, Chris, for posting this information. No one from Deaf Smith Co. was listed this time, but I'll keep watching.   Jo === Chahta Ohoyo Holahta, Honorary --- On Wed, 8/5/09, Morton1000@aol.com <Morton1000@aol.com> wrote: From: Morton1000@aol.com <Morton1000@aol.com> Subject: Re: [TXGEN] [TXGW-NEWS] Adjutant General's 1891 Fugitives FromJustice To: txgen@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2009, 12:18 PM I'm pleased that other CC's will put up the data. 3. Many thanks Chris. Have put the info for Montgomery County on our page and listed to the complete file. Thanks a million. Great info! I think everyone secretly hopes that they'll find some scoundrel in their past. 3. Thanks to Chris Morton for adding this info... Looks like a good many of the fugitives were in Bexar Co. LOL My work is cut out for me. Some how this doesn't surprise me, as when I read the newspapers from way back when there was a lot of this stuff in there. 3. Childress had none, too, and I always think of it as being just a bunch of cowboys back then. Clay only had one for murder. But then tiny little Somervell had 3. And the descriptions are as follows: #1 Has a sneaking look #2 Drinks and smokes; is rather sociable #3 Ugly mouth Love those descriptions! Really paints a mental picture! Thanks so much to Chris Morton and Elaine for getting it on line. Vicki Nan wrote: > Not a single fugitive for Cameron County.
