Re: Joseph Moreland Joseph and Mary Ann Moreland came to Texas from Georgia in 1839 and eventually settled in Fairfield, TX. Mary Ann Lamar Moreland was the sister of Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas, and Joseph was appointed to public office under him. Both Joseph and Mary Ann are buried in Fairfield Cemetery and I recently located and photographed the gravesite. There were ten children in this family: Caldwell, Ella, Joseph, Rebecca, Thompson, Turner, Lucius (1837), Belinda (1839), Loretto (1842) and Mary Amelia (1846). Two of the children are buried with their parents in the family plot. Rebecca married George B. Forrest in Freestone County in 1859. Loretto married James L. Caldwell in 1863. Mary Amelia married J. R. Thompson in 1871. Although I know that some of them moved to Louisiana after the death of their parents, there were so many children in the family, I'm convinced that there are still relatives living in Freestone County. I'm hoping that someone there is researching this family and will share information with me. Joseph was the brother of Turner Moreland, my gggrandfather. I have quite a bit of well-documented information on my direct line and I will be willing to share with anyone who can help. Bill William Harral Moreland bill@eastland.net
