I have written this just as it appeared in the paper. Fairfield Recorder, Fairfield Texas Friday, March 27, 1925 IN MEMORY OF MRS. H. G. BLAKE Mrs. Hattie G. Blake was born Nov. 22, 1844 and died March 9, 1925 at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. W. O. Keaton at Teague Texas. Mrs. Lake was born in Tennessee but when three years old moved to Arkansa and about the time she was grown she moved to the county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doc Smith settled on what is still known as the old Smith home five miles northwest of Fairfield. She had five sisters and six brothers as follows: Miss Nannie Smith, Mrs. Julia Gilbert, Mrs. Maggie Massey, Mrs. Lena Potter, Mrs. Agnes Gallion, Lewis Fate, Ben, Tom, Sam and Jim Smith. Of all this large family only two are living as follows: Sam Smith, who has always lived on the old home place and Jim Smith, who lives in California. Mrs. Lake was married to John E. Lake Dec. 13, 1874 and settled on Ward Praire. Mr. Lake died Jan. 12, 1897. Mrs. Lake perfessed religion many years ago and joined the Methodist Church in which she lived a faithful and dutiful member until the death angel came and kissed her life away. She leaves to mourn for her two daughters Mrs Delia Odom of San Jose, California and Mrs. Alice Keaton of Teague and one son, Ed R. Lake of Ward Praire. Two brothers, Sam and Jim Smith, Seven Grandchildren besides a host of friends. All that loving hands could do was cheerfully done for her in her last sickness, but god had call and she could not stay. Her loved ones can only be submissive. She had no enemies that her sweet and cheerful disposition made for her a host of friends who always delighted to be in her company. Her remains were brought from Teague on Tuesday evening March 10, to the Lake Chapel Cemetery where a large crowd of relatives and friends gathered around her flower laiden casket to pay their last tribute of love and respect to this dear mother. after an impressive service by Rev. Herbert McKissack she was laid to rest by the side of her husband and son who passed away many years ago. May god in his infinite mercy watch over the children of this consecrated departed mother and guide them to the Saints eternal rest where mother is waiting to greet them enjoined their association forever One who Loved her
