The Teague Chronicle Nov. 30, 1917 S.W. BEENE Samuel W. Beene, aged 77 years, died at the family residence in the city Monday evening of asthma, from which he had suffered for many years. The remains were laid to rest in Salem cemetery four miles south of Teague Tuesday afternoon. Eld. J.L. Walker conducted the religious ceremony and the local Masonic lodge performed the ceremony of the order according to the written request of deceased made on his death-bed. Mr. Beene leaves a wife and seven children, three daughters and four sons, besides several brothers and other relatives. The following statement was made by Mr. Beene a few days before he died. part of it was written in his own hand and the remainder was dictated to his brother, Eld. J.L. Beene: "Some information for my family and others: Samuel W. Beene, son of Samuel and Mary Beene, born in Marion county, Tenn., March 15, 1840. Joined Co. H, 4th Regiment, Confederate Army in the year 1861. The writer professed faith in Christ at the age of 32 years, Sept. 11,1872, and united with the Baptist church at Morristown soon afterwards; was ordained a deacon in the Baptist church in 1882 at the Irvin Chapel church house near Poolville, Parker county, Texas. It is my request to receive Masonic burial and be buried as nearly to my brother Obadiah, as possible. S.W. Beene" .
