My Great-Grandmother was Rachael Lizabeth Welch, later changed to Rachael Elizabeth. She married T. L. (Talford Lott) Bray in 1899, and William was dead by that time. A couple of days ago, my mother and I found a Freestone county deed listing "Wm Welch and wife" as having bought 100 acres for $500 in 1897. This document listed his wife as M. E. Welch. M. E. stands for Mary Ellen and her maiden name was Marsh. Mary Ellen (Granny Welch) and her descendants insisted that Wm Welch was Native American, and that he was shot off his porch. No other information regarding Wm is known at this time, and until a few days ago we didn't know his first name. Mary Ellen was born in 1855 and died in 1936. Rachael was born in 1881 and died in 1953. Both are buried in McBride, OK.
