Actully I need help with the 1910 and the 1920. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrea monkees5@msn.com
Does anyone have an index for the 1920 census? I have tried everything and every way I know to locate J W (John Wesley) Monk on the 1910 census. J W was married in Falls co. in 1892-to Grace Carroll. He was living in Milam county TX on the 1900 census. His wife was supposedly dead by 1907. He has been found in and around Freestone county also. On his obit though it states that he was along time resident of the west Texas area. He was found in Hale county in 1926 and on the 1930 census for Lubbock co.. I cannot locate him from 1900-1926. He had 2 more children after the 1900 census. Their names are Mary Ann and Estelle. I found his girls in Hall county in 1930 with their husbands. Their last names were Robbins and Vice. The name Robbins was misspelled on the census Robins. I have tried looking under the girls names for the 1910 census too but with NO luck. I need a suggestion or some help if some one might have the index. I open to any ideas!!!!!!!!! I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrea monkees5@msn.com

I've been following the conversation abt Steward's Store - only because I had Stewart's that were in TX from TN in the 1880's and on. So, I did a google search on "Steward's Mill Store Texas" and found these interesting pieces: Early History of Freestone County http://www.pflash.com/USERS/lwr/history.htm An obit: Palestine Herald Press 20 March 2000 GRACE CARROLL Services for Grace Carroll, 81, of Fairfield, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Capps Chapel with the Rev. She was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Kirvin. Mrs. Carroll was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by son, Van Carroll; and daughter, Sondra Whatley. Mrs. Carroll is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Carroll of Fairfield; daughters, Lucy Salter of Streetman, Carolyn Nanny of Teague, Billie Brim of Baytown, Martha Lindsey of Fairfield, Kathy Whatley of Fairfield, Shelia Carroll of Fairfield and Sara Owens of Van; sons, Milton Carroll, John Carroll and Jack Carroll, all of Fairfield; brother, Pete Guyton of Buffalo, Wyo.; sisters, Neva Baker of Madisonville and Betty Miller of Livingston; 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Mother says that the men were all given nicknames, so jay and jack are real men but their nicknames. I am going to make copies of the deed and Rachael's marriage license today and scan them. Also I'll transcribe the deed since it is a legal size page and hand-written. Mother knows the “who and what” of the children of Wm and Mollie Welch, since they lived in the same areas in the 30's & 40's...And America Jane Bray is Talford Bray's mother. The father's name is still unknown but others who connected with mom via these message boards have done a lot of work on that side. If you are indeed related, she would love to talk to you about the family and share what she has--mostly a couple of pictures of Mollie and her grave marker. My grandmother (daughter of Rachel) married a Marsh and believed that her husband was not related to Mollie's Marsh side, but now it is uncertain. I'll get back to you as soon as I have the deed scanned and transcribed. My email is wlgreen@swbell.net Here are a couple of pictures of Mollie with her grand children from Rachel:

I do have a scanned picture of William Henry Welch, wife Mary Ellen (Mollie) Marsh Welch and their children. Rachel appears to be about 14 to 18 years old (hard to tell age); my grandmother Liza Catherine (about 12 to 14 years old; two boys Jack (born in 1890); Jay (my grandmother called him Jake--born in 1894); Melissa Jane (born in 1892); and William Henry is holding a baby (my grandmother did not mention another child). I have a copy of the 1920 Bryan County, Oklahoma census showing _______ Bray (The name looks like Linford and they have it listed that way); wife Rachel, children Alva, Georege, Ella, Joseph, TL, and America Bray. She is listed as his mother. You might let me know if you don't have this and need copies. Welchs and Marshs are on the same page in the census. I also have a copy of a letter written by Rachel to my grandmother, Liza, telling her of the death of our great grandmother! , Mary Ellen (Mollie) in 1836. Maybe we can compare notes. You can contact me at JHeflin@cox.net. I would like to have a copy of the deed you found if at all possible.

My Great-Grandmother was Rachael Lizabeth Welch, later changed to Rachael Elizabeth. She married T. L. (Talford Lott) Bray in 1899, and William was dead by that time. A couple of days ago, my mother and I found a Freestone county deed listing "Wm Welch and wife" as having bought 100 acres for $500 in 1897. This document listed his wife as M. E. Welch. M. E. stands for Mary Ellen and her maiden name was Marsh. Mary Ellen (Granny Welch) and her descendants insisted that Wm Welch was Native American, and that he was shot off his porch. No other information regarding Wm is known at this time, and until a few days ago we didn't know his first name. Mary Ellen was born in 1855 and died in 1936. Rachael was born in 1881 and died in 1953. Both are buried in McBride, OK.

As most of you know, I am working on a book about all of the people who are buried in Antioch Cemetery at Luna in Freestone County. I am using statistical/genealogical information about the people, photos of the gravestones and as many photos as I can locate of the people buried there. As with any other publication that uses both text and photos, there is always some "extra space" on some of the pages that need to be filled in. Several people who are descended from the people buried in Antioch have sent me wonderful pictures of "artifacts" that belonged to theses "Antioch People": a rocking chair crafted by one, a spinning wheel that belonged to another, an oxen yoke used by another and so on. One picture really impressed me enough to make this appeal. If anyone has a Bible that belonged to one of the people buried in Antioch at Luna, I would love to have a photograph of the Bible to use in this book. Let me be clear, I am not asking for copies of the family information pages. Though I love the family record pages, I won't have room in this book for those; I am speaking of a picture of the Bible. The one that was sent to me by a special cousin, was that of David Ezell. In the picture, the Bible was open. It was so precious. If you have access to one of these old Bibles, contact me OFF THE LIST at this address: feather@airmail.net If you need a postal address: Box 38 Teague, TX 75860 Modene Knight Thornton

The ledgers from the Stewards Mill Store were donated to the Freestone County Museum in Fairfield by Frank & Dorothy Watson Bragg. Anyone desiring information from them can go there and research. They are not indexed and have not been transcribed or microfilmed. Mike
