    1. [TXFREEST] ADKINS
    2. The History of Freestone County, Texas; Vol. I, p. 223 Lafayette Houston "Fate" Adkins was born in AL in 1851. The family moved to LA. Just before the Civil War, the father left his family and came to TX but was killed in TX and never returned. The mother and her children: Fate, Aggrippa "Grip," Sue, & Nanny came to Freestone Co. after the Civil War. Fate married Martha Melissa Black; Grip married Sallie Eugenia Lancaster; Sue Mourning m. Robert Johnson; Nanny m. a Goodwin. All lived in the Dew/Lanely area of the county but many of their descendants moved to OK. Perhaps someone else on the list can provide you with the names of the parents. Mike

    3. Apologies to all. I am doing this for my 83 year old mother .This is my FINAL attempt for looking for Robert aka Tom ADKINS/ATKINS for her. After this, I am going to quit. I am too old for this. Therefore, in my last ditch effort, I am going to post this in the TX counties where he could have been in TX. If you receive this on other boards in TX that you belong to, please delete it. I know it can be a burden. This man did not exist but I have a hard time explaining that to mother. Conflicts in our knowledge of Robert aka Tom ADKINS: 1] He was a millwright and he was always named Tom and he got his arm cut off in a saw and got blood poisining and died. He supposedly died before 1890 in TX. 2] All the other ancestors say he and his wife both died in the cholera epidemic of 188? whenever it was in TX and that they are burried in an unmarked grave. 3] Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" ADKINS (Robert aka Tom's daughter) claimed to be a first cousin to former Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Eisenhour Administration, Samuel "Sam" TALIAFERRO RAYBURN b January 6, 1882 Roane County, Tennessee. Sam lived most of his life in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas. Mollie's death certificate lists her father as Tom ADKINS and so do the Funeral Home Records. 4] Robert's grandaughter who died last year gave me an old newspaper article on Samuel "Sam" James ERVIN/ERWIN Jr a former Representative from North Carolina born in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina September 27, 1896. He was elected to the Seventy-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his brother, Joseph Wilson ERVIN/ERWIN and served from January 22, 1946 to January 3, 1947. She says we are also related to him. I can NOT find either of these connections yet. Thinking it might be with a WALLER though. 5] All the information on Robert aka Tom ADKINS says his parents were both from LA. All the census information on his children (ALL of them) says Robert Adkins was born in TX. 6] Robert aka Tom ADKINS had one of his sons, James Samuel spell his name ATKINS in Clay Co, TX Court Documents. 2. I found that my public library has a research link that I can access from home with my library card. The site is HeritageQuest and is searchable by year, state, county, township or name. I can go right to the page I need without having to scan images and pray for an index. Granted, they do not have all years and are in the process of loading 1920, but it is well worth the time to check to see if your local library has this site available to you. Joyce

He was living in Milam county TX on the 1900 census. His wife was supposedly dead by 1907. He has been found in and around Freestone county also. On his obit though it states that he was along time resident of the west Texas area. He was found in Hale county in 1926 and on the 1930 census for Lubbock co.. I cannot locate him from 1900-1926. He had 2 more children after the 1900 census. Their names are Mary Ann and Estelle. I found his girls in Hall county in 1930 with their husbands. Their last names were Robbins and Vice. 3. Hi Andrea, Could they have moved out of TX between 1900 and 1926? Have you found Grace's grave in TX? When you found his girls in TX on the 1930 U.S. census, where were they born? I know of no written index for the 1910 or 1920 U.S. censuses. The index for the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 U.S. censuses is the Soundex microfilm. (I don't know about the 1930 U.S. census.) The Soundex code for MONK is M520. The Soundex card will tell you the county, enumeration district [ED] #, sheet # and line # in the U.S. census. J W was married in Falls co. in 1892-to Grace Carroll. The name Robbins was misspelled on the census Robins. I have tried looking under the girls names for the 1910 census too but with NO luck. I need a suggestion or some help if some one might have the index. I open to any ideas!!!!!!!!! > I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrea monkees5@msn.com

    3. There was a column titled "From the Tacker School House" written by "The Watchman" published ca 1890 in "The Fairfield Recorder". Does anyone know who "The Watchman" was?
