    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Black, King, Lane Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AiB.2ACE/1085 Message Board Post: I read in a message posted November 11, 2001 that Elizabeth B. King who was married to Thomas Henry Lane until his death in 1860 actually gave Freestone County, Texas it's name. According to other postings Elizabeth B. King was a female physician. I also read that her son James King Lane was a methodist minister, held a seat on the Texas Legislature and that the town of Lanely, Texas (which I believe to be in Freestone County) was named after him. I am looking for some confirmation that this is correct. I cannot find any information to substantiate the above claims. I also can't find anything on Elizabeth B. King after Thomas' death in 1860. Any information would be helpful.

    2. Fred Hawthorne
    3. James W. Sellers (b. 7-3-1821) died in Seminary, Covington County, Mississippi, on 11-06-1862. A short time later his son, John D, Sellers (b. June 23, 1848) migrated with his widowed mother, Mary Margaret Speed (b. 10-08-1825) and his wife, Elvirah Jane Hinton (01-03-1851) to Freestone County, TX. They traveled with his sister, Kizziah Elizabeth Sellers (b. 10-28-1851) and her husband, Peter Hubbard. I have information on these families that I am very happy to share upon request. Regards, Fred Hawthorne (JFHawthorne@ATTBI.com) "One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been."

I did look at what little I have on C. DeMoss. I also suspect that this was a marriage of convience, she may never have left her father Owen's home. I have not researched the DeMoss line at present, I am however very interested in this line. Dale W. Key La Pine, OR

    3. What I found in my own personal searches have been that sometimes, family members decided to divorce or separate and they just moved out...rather than officially go through with the court proceedings. And remarried as if a first marriage had never taken place. Sometimes, people HAD to get married and then had it annulled. (I can't figure that one out.) You must remember that the censuses were taken by people who could often barely read and write and often assumed information, or blatantly got it wrong.Especially spelling, ages, sex, etc... All information needs to be verified by a number of sources to be determined correct...believe me. Contact the local courthouse, newspapers (for announcements), or Church records for records of marriages, deaths, etc..in Freestone County, it is more difficult due to the fire, but info. can still be found. Do not accept the LDS records as 100% accurate. I have found them to have many mistakes. Let me know how you do. I would love to have a good copy of the 1900 Navarro County census....not one that is 99% black. 3. Tracie, Thank you for your response. I don't know where in Tennessee he was born. There were other people named Lucas living in that area of Freestone County who came from Lauderdale County, Alabama. The other Lucas families were in Freestone County by 1880, which is 6 years before Anders was born. If they are related - and they most likely are - then I would suppose that they were in one of the Tennessee counties that border the northern Alabama line just above Lauderdale. Again, thanks, Modene Teach A Kid wrote: > Hi Modene, > > Do you know where in TN Jim Anders Lucas was born? 3. Hi Modene, Do you know where in TN Jim Anders Lucas was born? Maybe I can locate him in the census in TN with his parents. All I've found so far is his social security info: Jim A. Lucas born 8/3/1886 died 5/15/1966 in Teague, TX. His social security number was: 462-86-8956. His ss card was issued in TX. Ida M. Lucas born 7/17/1886 died 6/15/1966 (exactly one month later). Her ss number was 462-86-8955. She too died in Teague, TX.
