Surnames: TAYLOR Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AiB.2ACE/1109 Message Board Post: Looking for information on John M. Taylor, born 1833 in Texas, married Nancy E. Reilly (Riley), born 1834 in Kentucky. Children, Mary I (or J.) born 1854, James B. (Baxter), 1856, William L (Levi), 1857 and Franklin F., 1860, All children born in Texas. I find the family only once in the 1860 Freestone County, Texas census. John M. went off to the war and never came back and Nancy died shortly after the census. The children were sent to live with relatives in Gillespie and Leon counties. William Levi (Buck) Taylor eventually found his way to Nebraska and went to work for William F. Cody. When Cody formed his Wild West Show, "Buck" Taylor was its first star. Buck said in interviews that his grandfather and uncle were killed at the battle of the Alamo. I can't make the connection Any help will be appreciated.

    3. There is a gravestone for Hendricks FLIPPO at Antioch at Luna. He was born August 21, 1911 and died January 24, 1913. Hendricks was a son of W illiam Arthur Flippo and Callie Smith Frash. That is the only gravestone with the surname FLIPPO in the cemetery. I can send you a black and white image of the stone. 3. Okay, I finally got in touch with my Aunt Mary Helen and she tells me that it was Mr. Tom Yerby, who (per local legend) single handedly held the armed bank robbers at bay at Grandpa White's store. She said this must have been about 1934. She said the Yerby family lived in a house at or near where Grace Tabernacle is now. Mrs. Lucy Yerby always wore a hat to church and loved flowers. She recalls that Mr. Tom Yerby was a county constable and occasionally imbibed (despite prohibition). She remembers children Marvin, Evie (married a Lancaster), Annie (married Bob ? and lived in Arp, TX). She also vaguely remembers a story about Bonnie and Clyde coming through Dew, but not if this was the same time. Ann, Have you ever heard the story about when the Gypsies came to Dew? My aunts (especially Mary Helen DeShazo) have lots of stories heard about and lived through all surrounding the Dew area. Maybe we can get them to give a program for our genealogy meeting sometime in the future. It could be interesting! 3. Is this the John? Yerby who arrested the bank robbers at the AH White's General Store in Dew? I asked my mom if she ever knew any Yerbys and she said there was a story about a bank (in Oakwood, possibly) being robbed and a Mr. Yerby (John?) heard about it and saw the gang getting gasoline at my g-grandaddy's store and Mr. Yerby (with only one firearm) arrested the whole gang of armed bank robbers. My mom said that she heard this story her whole life and she thinks she knows where Mr. Yerby lived at Dew. This incident must have happened sometime during the 1920s & 1930s (I guess). I called my aunt (mom's older sister) to ask her about this, but she wasn't home. I'll check with her later and let you know what I find out. Does this story ring a bell with any one else?
