BTW, I finished the Hopewell list. I saved it to disk and also to another application that I named FCCemeteries. On the second one, I added a column for the name of the cemetery. As I do the different cemeteries, I will save them to disk - individually - and also add each one of them to the FCCemeteries list. By the time all of them are done, we will have a master list that we can convert to alphabetical order and when someone wants to know in which cemetery someone is buried, we can use the FCCemeteries list to find out. Is there any place in Fairfield to puchase Freestone County Genealogical Society publications or must I do it via mail? Thanks! Mike
Mike, I will have the research room open this coming Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 pm. You can come by then, or if you are in Fairfield before then, you can go by the room and call one of the phone numbers posted on the window. One of the volunteers will be happy to open the room for you. The FCGS research room is located across the street on the east side of the courthouse. It is between the Masonic Hall and The Cupboard on Keechi. Many people have asked about the "What's New" page on the TXFreestone site. When I took over the responsibilies of County Coordinator I pulled the page until I could familiarize myself with the site. The TXFreestone site is a massive site with tons and tons of useful information. I will be putting the "What's New" page back online and updated along with giving a regular email to this newletter concerning recent uploads. I thank everyone that has contributed to the site, the information is invaluable to others researching in Freestone County. That is the reason why I am here. I am currently working on a project with the help of Jackye Penney with getting pictures of the tombstones of Driver Cemetery. My many thanks go out to her. We are receiving submissions for the website daily and hope to continue to do so. If anyone has any suggestion, comments, or complaints please feel free to give them. Don't worry I have had all my rabies shots and do not bite to much. Thank You to Everyone and To All Have A Blessed Day Recent uploads for the TXFreestone Website. Marriage 1872/3 I have been told by two separate sides of my family that Tilman H. Self born in LA in approx 1848 (17 Mar 1847) is my gg-grandfather. One group reports that Tilman is the father of Hettie Caroline Self b:11 May 1875 Freestone Co, TX. The other bunch says that she was born in Indian Gap, Hamilton Co. TX same date. The problem is that I cannot find a Hettie connected to Tilman Houston and Amanda America Smith Jones Self m: 5 Feb 1873, TX in any census records. Tilman is shown as being the son of Joseph and Mary in Freestone Co. in 1850. A twin is not shown. I have found a Tilman H. Self registering to vote in Tarrant Co 25 Nov 1869. According to the records he had been living in precinct 2 of Tarrant Co. Tx for 9 mos. I have lots of good stories from "so called authorities," but I have NO tangible evidence to link Tilman to Hettie. In addition, I have found a William Self married to Minerva in Brown Co, 1880 Census with a daughter named Hettie born in 1876. He also had a daughter named America. My "authorities" have reported that Hettie had a sister named America Belle. I would dearly love to make 2+2 = 4, but I can't. Something is not correct somewhere, but I haven't figured it out yet. If you have or find any records that will clear this up could you let me know. Thank you very much, Ann N. Swinney Taylor, I know for a fact that I am Hettie's g-grandaughter.
I found a Pinkney Anderson married to S. A. Maddox on Apr. 20, 1871 But nothing for Sheppard or Goode.
