    3. Black Jaundice (Wiel's Disease) Black jaundice is a common term for Wiel's Disease. It is quite common in northeast England near mines, farms and sewage and floats about in water. It is caused by a micro-organism and thus is a bacterial infection (of the liver) and not a virus, as in hepatitis. It is carried by rats and secreted in their urine. It is usually not fatal, in present time, to humans. It is, however, rapidly fatal to dogs and cats, who can eventually gain a resistance, but either way can pass it on. -----Original Message----- From: JLKB@aol.com [mailto:JLKB@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, September 21, 2003 1:59 PM To: TXFREEST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TXFREEST] Obits from The Fairfield Recorder Can someone enlighten me as to what "black jaundice" was? 3. There is microfilm of The Fairfield Recorder and the Teague Chronicle. These can be found in some of the larger libraries and/or archives. We have both at the Freestone County Genealogical Society research room. We also have some of the issues of The Wortham Journal on microfilm. You can come to the room on the first or second Sunday of each month between 1 and 4 pm and look at the microfilm. If you must come at another time, volunteers', who can open the room for you, phone numbers are posted in the window. Wills, who served as postmaster in Cotton Gin, Texas when it was establisded in 1851. He also served on Trinity's board of trustees for many years. If you can direct me to any likely source of information I would be deeply appreciative. I am writing a history of Trinity and would like to include a photo of Wills in the book. Thanks. R.
