    2. My current project is to identify everyone buried in Stewards Mill Cemetery in Freestone County, Texas with spouses and parents. Can you help with either of the following? 1. Narcissa Wilkinson (1872-1889); she was the wife of James Wilkinson and her obit says the sister of J. C. Brewer. Her marriage license has a name more like "Nord" but the tombstone says "Narcissa." 2. Cora A. Sellers (1873 - 1898). Is this the Cora Brewer who married L. F. Sellers? If so, who were her parents? 3. Look in the Social Security death index. I found one there that died in Lubbock. I think you can still order the original application card--and that does have some info. I know the Texas legislature is trying to prevent identity theft but they made it very difficult to get information for legitimate purposes. Ester L Hunter 11 April 1933 6 Sept 2002 Last residence Lubbock TX The application card is still available and it is expensive but it might give you what you want. 3. Violet & Henry are both buried in Fairfield Cemetery. Violet: 1890-1961 Henry F. 1888-1964 You should be able to locate them on 1900,1910 & 1920, 1930 census. You might try social security application or perhaps school records to get proof of birth. 1. [TXFREEST] Re: TXFREEST-D Digest V03 #137BUTLER CEMETERY
    2. We, the Freestone County researchers are very fortunate to have such a great web site. Many thanks to the web server and the many people who contact it. Anyone referring to a Butler cemetery would more than likely be referring to one of the three cemeteries nestled together in the woods. Mayes Cemetery sits between the two black LONE STAR cemeteries. East of Fairfield on high way 84 about 11 or 12 miles is HARDINGS STORE (there is still a store at that cross roads on the right east corner, I just am not sure of the name). They can tell you how to take the road to the left and get to the cemetery. Or about a mile and a half further east at the top of a hill there is a small cemetery sign on the left. Take that road to the left and keep to the right as it turns to the left. About a mile or so there will the a fork, go left. You are at the old LONE STAR cemetery, next to it is the MAYES cemetery, then the new LONE STAR cemetery. In the 1880s Butler was a thriving community of 200 to 300 people, with wooden side walks, several stores, post master, Dr. Perry was there, his daughter married Thomas EDWARDS. Dr. Perry is buried in Mayes cemetery. One of his descendants was there a few years ago and replaced his tomb stone, also met with my mothers double first cousin, Helen FRANKLIN STARNES, deceased as of 16th of December 2002. I believe he also met with Mrs. Childs at the museum. Quite a few years ago there was a book with the listing of people buried in both cemeteries. There were some names missing, and now there are some stones missing, but if you think you have someone there, it is worth the ride. I know that my great grand father Napoleon Bonapart FRANKLIN (fought at Vicksburg) is buried there, also many members of my family. My cousin, Nelson still lives on the FRANKLIN land, not too far from the cemetery. I research WALDROM/WALDRUN, SATTERWHITE, HAWES, FRANKLIN, SMITH, MEADOWS, JONES, COBURN, WEBB, COSTIN, EDWARDS, KILLOUGH, BOHANNON, CROSS, SANDERS, PARSONS, in Freestone, Navarro, Henderson, Leon counties. Would like to exchange info on any of these families. Johnnye (KILLOUGH) Carlson

    3. There are a few references in the Freestone History Book about "Butler Cemetery". I can't remember which book at the moment, but probably book 1. I even saw a section in the History Book that was a listing of Civil War Vets buried in Freestone. In this section (if I remember what I read correctly) it listed cemeteries and the name of the Veterans buried in each cemetery. Some veterans were listed as being buried in "Butler Cemetery". I am wondering if there is a Freestone Cemetery that I have missed when my family has been there.
