    3. It has been 20 years since I visited Salem Cemetary and copied all the Carroll, Echols, and Driver monuments for my own use. I put up a marker for my g-g-grandmother Agnes Clement Echols, and meant to have the monument for Champness Echols repaired or replaced. But then I got married, then college for the step-children, now 4 spoiled rotten grandchildren, and Cemetary work has taken a back seat. Thank goodness for the internet so I can still dabble some in genealogy without travelling. Thanks to all of you for your help! 3. David, Here is an article written on William Eugene Martin. Freestone County History Book Vol-2 Paragraph 526 Pg. 350 By: Norma Jacquelyn (Martin) Cull Claiborn Jackson "Jake" Martin was born in 1815 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, to Claiborn and Frances Martin. About 1820, the family moved to Perry County, Alabama, and settled near Radfordville. Jake was a farmer and a school teacher. In 1836, he married Elizabeth "Betsy" Cely. Their children were: Sarah, Benjamin Franklin, Malinda, Tempe Lenora, William, and Jackson. Soon after the Civil War, the family moved to Freestone County where they settled near Donie. Jake Martin died in 1892 and Betsy in 1903 in Freestone County. Both are buried in the Oakes Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas. Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Martin was born in 1840 in Perry County, Alabama. He served in the Civil War as Sergeant wih Company K of the 8th Alabama Infantry. On July 2, 1863, he was captured by the Union forces at the battle of Gettysberg, Pennsylvania, and was kept a prisoner at Fort Delaware until the end of the war. Soon after his release, Ben moved with his father and other family members to Freestone County and settled near Donie. He was a farmer and casket maker. He married Mary Jane Oakes, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Edwards) Oakes of Perry County Alabama. Ben and Mary Jane had six children: William Eugene, Bennie Lee, who died young, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" who married Dixon Beene, Theophelus Eurastus who married Laura Tacker, and Lorena, twin sister of Evalina. Ben Martin died in 1917 and Mary Jane in 1909 in Freestone County. Both are buried in the Oakes Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas. William Eugene "Bud" Martin was born in Freestone County in 1873 to Ben and Mary Jane (Oakes) Martin. He lived around Donie and Teague most of his life. As a young man he loved to sing, and it is said that he had a good bass voice. He and his brother-in-law, William Taker, established a singing school and taught voice lessons around the county. In 1894, Bud married Martha Carroll, the daughter of Dr. Steadman D. and Anna Virginia (Echols) Carroll of Freestone County. Their children were Cyrus Vernon and Ethel Dorothy who died young. Martha died in 1939 and is buried in Salem Cemetery in Freestone County. In 1900, Bud married Elsie Loucretia Rebecca Drucilla "Lou" Wren, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Barrington) Wren of Freestone County. Their children were: Vivian Lourena who married Walter Turner and still lives in Teague; William Greer who married Flossie Swindel; and Doris Lawson who married Irene Lampier and had one child, Alwilda Louise Boles. Her children are Gerald Dwight and Karen Renee Lawson. Bud Martin died in Teague in 1960 and Lou died in 1965. Both are buried un Union Cemetery in Freestone County. 1. [TXFREEST] How long will you live?
    2. Got this from another genealogy list. Makes sense to me! JF Quoting from an article by Kenneth L. Fisher that appeared in Forbes Magazine, October 30, 2000 issue "Portfolio Strategy", he relates a genetic formula for determining longevity based on ages of parents/grandparents. Does it work? "How long are you likely to live? It is mostly genetics. Average your parents' ages at death and then add four years. Average all your grandparents and add eight years. Each generation lives longer on average. Only natural deaths count; if one of them died in an auto accident, skip that person. Find the average of these two sets of numbers and you'll know how long you likely have. Of course, you may die tomorrow in a plane crash, but you had better plan on living fully as long as your ancestors did. If you're married, remember that the money must last for two." The thrust of the investment article is to invest wisely to insure you do not outlive your money!
