Posted on: Freestone County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/FreestoneObits/135 Surname: Miller, Sandifer, Lindley ------------------------- I have no connection to this family. Fairfield Recorder, Fairfield Texas Friday, December 11, 1925 IN MEMORY OF W. H. MILLER Mr. W. H. MILLER was born Aug. 2, 1864 in Marshall Texas and died at his home in Fairfield on the 29th day of Oct. 1925 being 61 years 2 months and 27 days old. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Rev. JOINER, Presbyterian Pastor at Wortham officiating. The masons then took charge and his body was buried in the Fairfield Cemetery with masonic honors. Surrounded by a grest crowd of friends from different parts of Freestone County and other parts of the state. He and Mrs. Mary SANDIFER, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. L. G. SANDIFER were married on the 27th day of Feb. 1888. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Elouise LINDLEY, who is now the wife of Tom LINDLEY, ex County Clerk and Miss Viola MILLER. His wife and two children survive him. Will MILLER, as his friends commonly called him, at all times took an active intrest in public affairs. He stood for the up building of our county, he labored for the public good, he was a man of fine business ability, and being courteous and abliging he had many friends. Regret and unfeigned sorrow were in many hearts when it was learned that the death angel had called him hence. I did not know what his church affliations were, I never heard him discuss that matter. I do know what he thought about that other sphere where the flowers of love and joy bloomed in eternal spring and the beauty and glory which is never marred by the ravages of sorrow and death. I never talked with him about that but I do know that he loved his fellow man, that he had a big brain, a big heart and a generous soul and his friendship was pure gold. He was a friend of humanity. I see from my house by the side of the road By the side of the Highway of life The men that press on with the ardor of hope And the men that are faint with the strife And I turn not away from their smiles and their tears Both parts of an infinite plan Let me live in a house both side of the road And be a friend to man We are frail, our troubled minds grow week and a recoil when we under take to grasp the mysteries of eternity, but this we know, the love of god is boundless. The mercy of god surpasses human understanding and is everlasting. He that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out. We can not judge, blessed, thrice blessed be our friend in final home. A Friend

Posted on: Freestone County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/FreestoneObits/133 Surname: Ivy, Emmons ------------------------- I have no connection to this family. Fairfield Recorder, Fairfield Texas Friday, December 4, 1925 IN MEMORY OF MY SISTER MRS. MINDA IVY Minda (EMMONS) IVY was born near Fairfield Texas, June 29, 1872. She passed away at Houston Texas, Oct. 15, 1925 thus making her stay on earth 53 years, 3 months and 16 days. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. A. EMMONS and the second child in a family of five sons and six daughters. In young womanhood she was happily married to John IVY. To this union three children were born, Ollie, Birdie and Polk. Ollie having proceeded her to that better world. She joined the Methodist Church at Mt. Zion when quite a young girl and lived a consistent christian thru the remaining years of her life. All that loving hands could do was done. We fondly watched by her side but god saw fit and called her home. She was so fair, time and pain had not changed her loveliness. She was a woman of modest, unassuming bearing, but firm in her convictions of pride. Life was one good example. A light that shone quietly but steadily thru all of lifes changing scenes. She suffered long and much , but she never murmured nor complained as a true child of god she endured as seeing him who was invisible. Full well did she know that the end was near . She asked us to stay with her and expressed herself as being ready to go. She had kept the faith, hence, she had no doubts, no fears, but calmly looked forward to a sweet release from pain and a happy home with the savior she had loved so well. We will miss her sweet letters, her long looked for visits, but we know where she is and are submissive to his will. After a long journey we arrived at the cemetery late in the afternoon and only a short time before the sun sank behind the western hills, surrounded by a great concourse of loved ones from far and near, we layed the remains to rest, but we tenderly laid her away to rest where the countless dead are sleeping, but shes free from sorrow, pain and care for in heaven theres no weeping. We will not murmur then, dear sister since life toils for the are over. Rest peacefully there in that lone grave yard by the side of thy precious daughter. Thy tender smiles were sweet we know, thy presents of lessons giving, but while we weep for thee below tho art at home in heaven. Our sister Fairfield Texas

Can any of you help Lynna Kay? JF --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Lynna Kay Shuffield" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2000 16:21:32 -0600 Subject: [TX-CEMETERY-PRESERVATION] New Historic Texas Cemetery Medallions Message-ID: <[email protected]> New Historic Texas Cemetery Medallions Recently, the Texas Historical Commission (THC) in Austin, Texas announced a new Medallion Marker was created to recognize Historic Texas Cemeteries. The medallion, made of cast aluminum is10-inches in diameter with the words "Historic Texas Cemetery - Texas Historical Commission" encircling a star, a rose and a cypress branch. This unique medallion is only available to cemeteries that have received the designation of Historic Cemetery from the THC. The requirements for selection is that a cemetery or burial site must have at least one grave that is 50 years old, i.e., a burial before 1950 and be deemed worthy of preservation. The Historic Texas Cemetery Program was developed by the THC to address the destruction of historic cemeteries and the illegal removed of cemetery fixtures (gravemarkers, sculptures, etc.). Threats to historic cemeteries include urban expansion and development, vandalism, grazing animals and long-term deterioration from forces of nature, such as weathering and uncontrolled vegetation. There is no way to guarantee the protection of historic cemeteries, but this designation is a tool that promotes preservation and protection through awareness of their importance as historic resources in the community. For more information, contact: Ned Coleman, History Programs Division, Texas Historical Commission, telephone: 512/463-6427 or write, P. O. Box 12276, Austin, Texas 78711, e-mail: [email protected] . For more information on Texas cemetery preservation and to see a photograph of the new medallion, visit the TX-CEMETERY-PRESERVATION website at: http://www.geocities.com/lks_friday/CEMETERY-001.htm The website includes a sample copy of the THC Historic Cemetery Application Form and get an idea of how to apply for the designation for your family, church or local cemeteries. When I went back to rewind the tape to see where I had left off there was no obits. I kept rewinding and still nothing. I decided that I would just come home and cry, so I did. I could not believe I had done all that talking and nothing. I hade gotten all the way up to April 1926.
