    2. Does anyone know who Addie Garrett was? She is buried in Antioch Cem (on FM 1634). There is also a Tom Garrett. Were they related? They are buried near my great grandparents Sidney J. & Roxie Evans. Judy Penrod Purcell Duncanville, TX

    1. [TXFREEST] Troy and Bethel
    2. Thank you Mike for your response regarding Troy. The reason I asked is that I have some handwritten notes (don't remember where they came from) that says an Evans burying ground was near Troy. The Evans family owned land near the Trinity. I'm wondering if the stones you found could have belonged to the Evans family. Some researchers believe the Evans family is buried at "Bethel". Would this be anywhere near where Troy was? 1. Re: [TXFREEST] Where was Troy?
    2. Allen, Vol. I says it was about mid-county. It has been over 40 years and I do not remember exactly where we were. I suggest you go to the Freestone Co. Clerk's Office in Fairfield and look at the deed books. They will give you the exact location of the ancestor's property and you can then trace it forward to see who owns it now. Mike

    1. Re: [TXFREEST] Where was Troy?
    2. Troy was located on the Trinity River; there is nothing there now. There were some old graves in some ranchland years ago; I vaguely remember some broken, illegible tombstones in overgrown areas. Some area cemeteries are mentioned on pp. 196-7 of Vol. I of Freestone Co. History. There's also brief information on p. 72 of that same volume. Mike

    3. Mike --- Where on the Trinity was Troy? My wife's GGgrandfather had property on the Trinity and we think maybe the family grave stones may have been where the plantation was. Any idea whose ranch they may have been on? We would like to get hold of those stones and see what could be done to read them. 2. My Evans ancestors lived near Butler in a community called Troy in the mid 1800s. Does anyone know exactly where that was? Is there a burying ground near it? I can't find any reference to it in the 2 volumes of History of Freestone. Judy Penrod Purcell Duncanville, TX

    3. Andrea, MONK relatives are buried in Antioch Cemetery at Luna, but as far as I know, there is nobody buried there by the MONK name except Burtline MONK. The gravestone looks to have been lovingly made by hand. There is another gravestone that looks as if it were made by the same person or persons - it is the gravestone for Leonard Linn DIXON. Wish I could be of more help to you, Modene Andrea Monk wrote: > Modene, I need to find the grave of Samuel Monk. He is listed as living in Teague Tx. on the obit for his brother in 1936. 3. I have a possible ancestor buried in Dew Cemetery, W. H. Welch, 1848-1893. He was supposedly killed in a land dispute in Freestone County. Do you know the names of the newspapers that would have been published in the county during 1893. I am not familiar with that area. Any help would be appreciated. That would give me an idea of what areas to try to check.
